View Full Version : how to calculate "meeting point" ?
Hi all.
I once saw a tutorial/explanation of how to calculate where i can expect to intercept a ship, given its speed vs my own speed. But i have long lost that link. I tried looking around here, but no luck so far. Anyone able to give me a pointer?
Any and all help appriciated.

Here's a guide that you maybe looking for. It says for convoys, but singles work too.

There was another document that used to be on the SH3 forum It was a PDF document that contained a nice graphic showing the steps all on one image. I have a hardcopy of that image but for the life of me, I can't find the original thread?
The graphic has a cyan background with the steps diagrammed in black, Blue, red, yellow and green for all five steps.
If anyone could find that document, I think it would help the original poster.
Do it the way the navy did it (in 1941, too !!) :DL

Go to the MoBo forum and download the MoBo program. It will blow your mind!
This message I wrote is different from the technique you are looking for but in my opinion much simpler in use. It was intended to explain how to 'dance' around your target but is just as easily used to develop a pure intercept course. (or what you call the course to the "meeting point")
In the image you should only need to make the red line towards the target. (ofcourse also the circles and the 'course to take'-line from their centers) Don't bother with the other protractor leg until you actually get there.

(Warning: The link to a small mod halfway in the message is for SH3, I don't remember if someone made it for SH4 yet.)
Here is the other technique as described by others, however it's not the image with all the steps shown in colors. Can't find that one atm.
With the following technique the writer actually brings you 9km (or whatever unit it is) infront of the target when you are on his track. Since he makes a 9km(nm) circle as targetspeed but sets it up in front of you, instead of the center ON your sub. The center on your sub would make it a pure intercept. But it's allways good to be there early.
