View Full Version : Why I hate Miami.

This is a rant/rage post.

I'm sitting at a light on a four lane road(two on each side) that is intersected by a road that goes into parking lots on both sides. On the other side of the light there is about 5 car lengths of space and then another light that crosses a major 8 lane highway. The light for that stays red for about 8 minutes and then goes green for about 3 minutes. So I'm stopped at the stop bar and on the other side of the intersection the traffic is full and almost backing up into said intersection.

I'm following the law and not entering the intersection till I can clear it. While my girlfriend is telling me that I can fit, I'm telling her that I'm not going to enter the intersection.

This dumbass hispanic lady in a mini van behind me starts honking at me. So I stay put. She then enters the turn lane on my left and tries to pass me. I accelerate and block her way. And she stares at me, I raise my arm like what are you doing. She sits there for a little bit and then goes forwards and cuts the car two cars ahead of me off. I get pissed. :damn:

The light to cross the highway goes green and we cross. When the right lane next to me opens up, I drive past her and get back in front of her, at about this time our road merges into one. So she's behind me and eventually turns off.

All the while my girlfriend is like "Geez"

I cant wait until I get my badge and become a trooper. Too bad I still need a year and a half worth of work experience.

To make it worse, it's my parents car so they have this on the back of the car:

Let's hope in that time you can get a better handle on your emotions. :yep:

In reading this, the idea of you carrying a gun does not make me feel safe, to be honest. :nope:

I have a good handle on my emotions. I never at any point cut anyone off, there was no one in the right lane when I entered it. And when I pulled in front of her there was no one in front of her, and I also did not give into my urge to stop in front of her. :haha:

Besides, the whole issue was not to get the fifteen minutes back. I wasn't in a hurry.

So whats the blue stripe stand for?

I grew up in Mia ... havana west... thing I hated was a 40 minute commute on the Palmetto each day both ways... it was only 15 miles or so.

On recent returns I find the drivers in Miami to be the most aggressive I have ever seen.

The palmetto (is it still under construction :haha: ) when flowing is like a freakin nascar race. Door handle to door handle less than half a car length following distance averaging 70mph. Hesitate at a red light for more than a fraction of a second and the horns start blaring.

Yea its not a nice place to drive.

Actually I guess the sticker might not well known, Especially if you're from another country.
The Thin Blue Line is a symbol that law enforcement officers in the United States use to identify other officers, their spouses and other family members.
I live in Cutler Ridge(about 20 minutes north of Homstead) and lately traffic has been getting horrible.

My job is in the middle of the Florida's Turnpike at one of the gas stations. At 7 am the northbound lane is bumper to bumper. The worst part is people get off at our station just so they can cut ahead. Luckily I go to work at 6, so I'm there before traffic.

The one thing I hate is when your on a major highwa and your doing the speed limit(or even five over) in the left lane and have to drive around the some guy doing 40.

Also, not to toot my own horn, but It's very hard to anger me. This time was an exception.

I fully understand your anger, I have been to Miami many times and know what it's like, plenty of idiots there.I in fact declined attending U of Miami because I did not want to live there.Fun to visit but could not live there.

The problem is your statement about being a Trooper.I am not going after you at all just trying to give you some perspective and advice I suppose. The job of a Law Enforcement Officer is not to use his or her power to settle scores or target things that annoy them personally, but to enforce the laws and protect the public without regard to race, national origin, community status etc. Your statement came across as rather hostile and immature, not someone we want on the street with a gun.Not going to judge though based one one post because I do not know you.Now I am pretty sure everyone has had a situation in traffic and uttered the phrase "Man I would love to a be a cop right now" I have, in fact I did it the other day because this idiot pulling out of a bar at 4 in afternoon nearly hit me and another car.I'll be a lawyer before too long, so ironic I said I wanted to be a cop right then lol.

Long story short, realize not everyone you pull over for speeding or a dumb move in traffic is a idiot who deserves the wrath.I have had a few tickets, mostly just speeding and most cops were cool but had a few *******s for sure, who had the attitude you seemed to display in your post. Should always be careful what you say because it can come back to haunt you when you worked in LE, esp things related to race, because I know some Officers who have landed themselves in hot water due to online postings, in fact the firm I work at is representing a couple of them now, one was terminated from his department.Again, not going to judge because of one statement made in an angry rant but as I said, be careful about what you say.

Having said all that, good luck with your career, I know some Troopers and been on a few ride alongs, it's kind of boring usually as far as LE stuff goes, mostly signal 4's (wrecks) but yet can be fun when stumble across odd things or even get to chase someone.Much different from riding around with city cops or sheriffs deputies for sure, they deal with crap pretty much constantly but I enjoyed the taste of trooper life more.Anyway, good luck.

Miami a Top Gear shoot in the city was enough to convince me better to stay away from that one. :D

Of course British are always subjective towards anything American(with the attitude oh hell we should have hold on to America and tried harder and build it better than it is today) but for that episode they did make their point :yep:

Spike88

@Bubblehead1980: I know all of this, my parents have been Troopers for the past 20 years. I've grown up with the life style, and have been told several times by my parents try to becoming something else. Not because they don't think I'm suited for it, or because they think I'd be bad at it. But Because they say the pay isn't worth it. But I feel it's right, I know being a police officer is about protecting society and not settling traffic incidents. The whole settling of traffic incidents is just a side perk(tis a joke). My personality has always been the type to do what's right just because it's right. And if you ask anyone who's known me personally says I'm perfect for it.

Also I know the Hispanic thing sounds awfully prejudice, but the one thing I didn't mention was the fact my father is Argentinian by birth. I have a spanish last name. All my friends are Hispanic, and my Girlfriend is also.

I guess the main issue, since that post was made out of anger, was that I don't seem like the type, but if you know me in real life I'm laid back and have a cool head. My job want's to make me a supervisor just for the fact that I don't get mad easily, and I can honestly say I've never been stressed out(and that's saying a lot working at my job, my manager has almost left twice from the stress brought down on us from above). Like I said this was a rare occurrence, I get cut off all the time and just suck it up. Hell, an hour or so before I was cut off by a car doing 50 while I was doing 70 on a major highway(Speed limit of 65). I had to turn sharply into the lane she was just in while applying the brakes(which was empty by the way, I have no clue why she decided to get into my lane).

Also, Thanks for the wishing of good luck.

Edit: As a side note, I do hate when Police Officers misuse their power, like Metro Dade who turns on their lights to bypass a red light only to turn them off and drive normal once their on the other side. This is not something I'd do.

Well the account name not far from real life personality. So Kumpel you not gone far from Moroccans. Strange for a Hitler lover

I'll assume this is a personal attack on my name. For one Spike is actually from Spike Spiegel the main character of Cowboy Bebop, which has been my favorite anime since I was 14. The 88, like I stated in another post is from my birth year of 1988. I had no clue that it was Heil Hitler until the other day.

On the topic of hispanics in Miami I personally found them to be for the most part upright citizens, engaged and intelligent.

Why they support Obama or at least do not speak against him is beyond me but it is what it is.

So dont wave that 'dumb hispanic' card around me I know better.

Having lived here for all my life(and being Hispanic) I would have to say it depends on which part you're in. Try to drive through Hialeah and you'll see what I mean.

I can also tell you that most of the Obama bumper stickers I saw down here were either on the wealthy white that live in Coral Cables and Perrine or cars belonging to the black. Although my Girlfriends parents voted for him, but they live off of my girlfriend and her older sisters salary due to poor mistakes with their lives.

Remember, police are never, ever authority figures, nor is it a perticularly dangerous job when compared to say, an oil rig worker, or a truck driver. (If you go with statistics), So this cult of "I'm risking my life to protect you" is bull****, and its really more "I want to pull dumb spics over and give them **** for running red lights".

Sorry, for threadjack.

On the subject: the problem with drivers in the U.S. is that they pretty much give driver's license to anyone who asks for it. Make the laws to obtain one stricter and the streets might became safer.
