It's interesting that only one person in the whole tribute says his name correctly: pronounced Flookey, as in Goofy, not rhyming with Ducky. I had the pleasure of meeting with a retired Navy captain and was regaling him with stories he'd probably already heard too many times until I pronounced the Admiral's name. I was dressed down like a puppy caught peeing on a rug...

Fluckey was his hero too. He had served under the Admiral and there was no insult like mispronouncing his name. Ahem..... I'l not be forgetting it any time soon.

Oh, it was all in good fun as long as I properly cowered and acted horrified that I could mispronounce his Admiral's name. :D

His people really did love him and would go to the end of the earth for him. Fluckey treated each man as indispensable and valuable. He extended his high opinion of himself to all he came into contact with:

That's to my wife's grandfather, a crewmember of no particularly high rank on board the USS Kraken, an anonymous boat if there ever was one at a United States Submariners of World War II convention. I'd say that's pretty admirable character.
