View Full Version : Sad thing at Ubishop

Today I thought I order SH4 for download, and did so at ubisoft. Then while the download was in progress, I started to wonder about some add-on it said in the file name. Yup, the exe wouldn't work. Well, on the ubishop site there were two SH4 entries, one "Wolves of the Pacific" (which was the whole and original game at least according to the descripion), and the U-Boat add-on. Well, I thought I might have made a mistake and ordered the wrong one as they were quite similar in appearance and description. I then made a second purchase and made sure I took the right one. After checking out and starting the download, it was about the add-on again!

20 euros wasted for nothing. I sent Ubisoft a reclamation about what happened and a note to cancel the second purchase. I should have suspected something as both the Wolves of the Pacific and the add-on sold for the same price (9,99). Still, their product catalog IS misleading if you're not getting what it says. Or is Wolves of the Pacific also really an add-on to SH4? I haven't got this impression...

Waiting for what they answer...

I might order SH4 from a local store (for 13 euros), but their product description says virtually the same than Ubisofts store, so I've become rather sceptical.

Harmsway!

You want both; "Wolves of the Pacific" and the "U-Boat add-on".

Wolves of the Pacific is the basic SH4 game that can be patch to 1.4 but getting the U-Boat add-on is the only way to get the game patch to 1.5. Yes it cost more. Look for the Gold addition which is the both of them package together.

In the long run you will want the complete package to take advantage of all the free Mods that require 1.5 to be installed. The major Mods is where the game actual becomes great.

You don't want to download it unless you get an unlimited license to install! With the Direct2Drive download (don't know about Ubi's) you get only a one-time install license. When you get mod soup and have to reinstall, and this will happen several times, you're at the mercy of their customer no-service people to issue you a new installation code. They'll only do this if they feel like it. If you succeed once I don't know what they would do the second or third time.

Why not just buy the SH4 Gold Edition for about the same price and have unlimited installs with no hassle?

The Gold Edition is the only way to go. I bought the original DVD and then got the add-on missions thru Direct2Drive. What mess when I needed reformat my drive and reload Vista. Went looking for the Gold edition and have been happy since. Will not by ANY software online PERIOD.

Ubi treats all D2D customers as second class. Get the DVD's and be happy. I had to wait weeks on another UBI title for an update as I had the D2D version and the mods they released for hardcopies would not work on the D2D version..

No more software downloads for me either..

Robbins, are you sure about that? I've had to re-download and install SH3 several times, and they never give me any trouble. I'm quite a big fan of Direct2Drive, although I couldn't speak of other download services.

I downloaded the U-Boat Missions from Direct2Drive and after I upgraded to Windows 7 and tried to reinstall it, my license key was no good. I contacted UbiSoft support and they fixed the problem for me within 24 hours.

Hopefully, they fixed it so that I won't have to go through that again each time I reinstall?
