After my succes last year making a RC raider i have finaly collectet the parts for YARR raider MK II

This about maximum fun for the cheapest price.

A YARR raider is a RC ship build of cheap RC components and Toys

The Hull as a big Plastic toy ship hull where you intigrate the RC controls from a cheap RC boat. The gun comes from a RC BB shooting tank.

Last year i made YARR raider MK I ( no pictures sorry) but it was 80cm long with a single turret with wireless cam sight. It made succesfull 2 months of Roaiming the local beach and only got attacked one time by a angry duck (no didnt shoot at it it just whent balistic)

Yarr raider MK I was operatet by 2 persons, one controling the ship and one controling the gun.

This year im making Yarr raider MK II

1,2 m
2 6mm BB turrets
180 degrees move for a bridge cam
2 cam sights
Spotter antenna

Sound and smoke control system from a RC tank new drive system from a bigger RC boat i found in a garage sale.

This time i will do abit more about how it looks and found some nice second hand fittings (1/40 torps and some other bits) and will make it much easyer to assamble and take apart.

In MK I i made the mistake not putting in a engine controller so it was hard to sail slow. The only new thing i have for MK II is a engine control unit so i can sneak around.

Its all about the costs vs fun.

MK II will demand aditional crew members

one who steer the boat (Yaar commander)
Front Gunner (piwate 1)
Aft Gunner (piwate 2)
Spotter / navigator (Plunderer)

So in all this one will need 4 crew members, where all have there own cam and function to operate. The gunners have the sight cams ontop of the barrel. The commander have the cam at the bridge and the spotter have a cam on the mast that be raised or lowered and can go 360 degrees

The superstructure might get a gun ontop (have the gun but realy dont like getting a cam more "have to be cheap") and the tanks dont come with more than 2 frekvenzes so have to do abit electronic to get that one to work.

Parts for the ship i have found on garage sails or the local recykle place Not much have been bought, especialy for MK I think the total cost for full function ship was around 100$ including all.

YARRR raider MK II will have

Spotting mast that can be raised or lowered with wireless cam that turns 360. (max hight 30cm above superstructure)

2 working 6mm BB guns that shoot MAX 25m (aimed shot 10-11m) with wireless cam sights

2 electric engines with power controll and 1 rudder the ship operator have a cam that rotates 180 degree.

Yarrr raider MK I had abit stability isues, this will be solved with the new hull by adding balast, the hull (bacause its a toy ship) are werry light, but tests in the tub say that i need to add 1.5KG balast to avoid it being top heawy and it will also make it extremly stabil.

All the controls are simple. The turrets uses the RC controls from the tanks.

The spotter cam are using the controlls from a RC crane

And the ship it self uses some hardware i have from last year (controlls and drive from cheap RC boat works werry good) But this year im putting my old 2.4GHZ hardware on the line i have from a plane i chrashed.

Sound comes from a RC tank (hope to get another Sound and smoke tank so both turrets have sound and the sounds for the engine comes by re wirering the printcard from the tank so i get the engine sound and smoke from that.

Now i have the parts, and its time to make YARR raider MK II

Total cost for YARR raider MK II will be around 150$ all included but it will be worth a million in fun factor for us crew members

I will post some pictures when i get around assambling the thing and for winter i have plans for upgrading the MK II to MK III to next summer

YR MK III
3 Dual turrets
2 working torpedo tubes with 1/40 electric topedoes
Better sound and lights

Everything bought from garage sales or found in the recykle bin..

everything is on boxes but startet to draw the plan for the super structure....have to make my own.....

The hull i have might give me some probs..seems abit to flat for this huge raider...

Sunday i have a m8 come over with the RC stuf he found at hes local recykle place including another tank (when the gearbox break people throw them out...he he he)

But have to admit that the scale of MK II project with all bits n boobs might kill my deadline...

Ill se if i can post a few piggys over the weekend atleast of the bits n boobs......<--- hmmmm lol... (¤)(¤).

I saw somewhere along time ago these guys were making model boats. Battle ships and the like.

The hulls were built out of soft woods, balsa and basswood for the most part. The rules of construction were pretty explicit.

Anyhow inside the hulls they placed RC controls in a water tight box, electic motors, and fitted 'cannons' that shot BB's using compressed air. You were limited to the number of BB's the boat could carry but not the number of guns.

So the idea was to shoot the other guys boat with the bb cannons and punch holes in the soft wood hulls. The construction paramaters ensured that the boat would sink if holed. There was a minium weight per class of boat which usually required the addittion of lead ballast.

last one still floating won :woot:

looks like they are still around

ya i know that but it aint cheap. Im kinda making the poor mans version if you rule out the gadgets...In denmark you would need weapons permit for those CO2 guns or special permit to use them...(steel balls)

Im making YR MK II with the superstructure of balsawood reinforced with a skeleton of 0.5cm alu pipe. Again all but the wood found as second hand..

this is a junkyard RC raider and my goal is to keep it cheap..

I got planes and helo`s around here and RC can be werry expensive if you want it big. Im proving to my self that hobbys dont have to be scale top of the line fine stuf.

I could make 6 fully fittet YR MK II`s for the prise of one Robbe U-49 with static dive...all included...and that one is just for you....

I dont want fancy stuf ;) i want to have fun building it and using it and this way we are 4 that have fun...and because your not bound by scales and looks you can keep building, adding stuf making it even more fun....

All RC people have there idea....i got fed up with scales and correctness, rules and the "club rankings"

Last year i tryed the "Freedom" this year i will go ballistic with it...lol....

I have great respect for most of the RC dudes here, but it always ends up in what gear you use....i will show them that fun can be cheap...

I actualy have a electronics engineer comming by who wants to help out and the local hobby shop think that im so nuts that they will donate all the broken RC stuf they have and parts thats gone out of production....

The girlfriends are werry close to killing me with all the junk im piling up here lmao....

I will post some pictures when i get around assambling the thing and for winter i have plans for upgrading the MK II to MK III to next summer

YR MK III
3 Dual turrets
2 working torpedo tubes with 1/40 electric topedoes
Better sound and lights

Sounds really cool!

Question:
Torpedoes? Will those have warheads or will they just be for punching holes in things?

Still a hit below the waterline would do more damage than a hit from a BB above the waterline, assuming the torpedo doesn't get lodge in the hull- which in that case it might capsize the target do to the loss in stability.

What about rockets bore sighted directly ahead or above one of the turrets? Just simple liquid fueled ones the size of a marker. Those would do some damage, especially if their remaining fuel spread on the target and inighted.

This is where things become tricky. Warheads. I would love warheads, just a small bang and some smoke, but realy think that working mini torps could be against some anti terror law...if you can make em small you can make em big ;) But have been thinking about it.

Rockets, fun you mention it. I actualy a few years ago made a Rocket batteri using small gas cylinders. Back then i put on a smoke grenade, you know these you can get as fireworks, you have no controll about anything with em, but 6 of em do put out some smoke over a decent area 25 by 25m

thats a area of effect weapon.

But im collecting ideas for MK III and ill just put this on the list

YARR RAIDER MK III

1. Dual turrets (twin 6mm BB)
2. Working torpedo tubes with 1/40 electric topedoes (dunno about warhead need to check with police)
3. Rocket battery with smoke rockets

Sound and smoke system for ship.

BTW
Why make this and realy dont have anything to shoot at. The idea of all this was to do something about people fishing against the law at our local lake Not building a cheap RC ship but arm it). Me and a friend needed something to do when fishing so we decided to hunt for those not paying for fishing. I know it sounds stupid and some might flame me for it, but we had fun. No one was in any danger exept some small dots on there legs or butts. We even had a kid who had a airsoft gun ready to fight, but MK I was not build for combat. MK II will be.

**
Doing a werry hot day a man decided to try out hes sailing RC ship. He shoutet at all and was general mean towards anyone. The lake have a beach with piers and stuf so in the middle of high noon this jerk decided that he want the half beach for him self. From a hiding place we sailed at range on hes fine sailing boat, my m8`s girlfriend gave him a warning note that if he didnt pack up and leave hes ship would be sunk (no way in hell that single gun could sing that ship) He laughed and kept going. We fired a warning shot at hes bow and hes face changed colour then we fired a warning shot right at hes feet. Trust me that fine sailing ship docked so fast and he almost ran to hes truck with it...
**

So there is stuf to do with it, just have to be carefull and do abit mature thinking on the dangers using stuf like this.....

My m8 actualy though of naming YARR raider MK II "lake sheppard" after sea sheppard lol....

" initial testing of the exploding 6mm BB bullets are promising (you know the 6mm that gives a bang when it hits a surface). We might have some special ammo now"

But the scale of this project is just gigantic.

Preparing hull for engine and engine pack

Prepare deck for superstructure and guns mounting

Building superstructure

Installing all electronics parts

Waterproof all that can be made waterproof

Balistic testings (air soft gun standoff) I can accept battle damedge just need to make sure that the ship can run home even shot to pieces by a 16 year old with hes 6mm AK-47

Since im a dad and have my job i might need tone down my goals abit, I will start to work on MK II but i might work on the upgrades to make it MK III on the side.

I promise when i start assambling and build it i post images. All from guns assambly to test firering. So far everything is in boxes but the drawings are almost done, and the electronics wirering drawings are also getting there.....but this project whent from last years "make it in two weeks" to oh my god can i do this...

here is a small youtube thing so you get an idea about the scale.....to make sure i had place for upgrading i have to make it 150cm long and it will be around 35cm to 40 cm wide...

Small update on the preperations for the build.

The hull i have is not stabil enough :( and that realy sux. So talked to a RC guy and he told me that the easyest would be to build my own hull. Its actualy not that complicatet and there are trix to keep the costs down.

The cool part is that when the mold is done i can make as many hulls i want.

Its the same with the superstructure. This time i want to have a more warship apearence. Im at a cross road. Should i got for cheap fun or should i actualy invest abit $ and make something that will be uniqe.

A man donatet a broken RC mlrs. The drive system is dead, but the launcher works. The launcher is big enough to be remade to hold 4 smoke rockets so the only thing i have to make is the firering controll and rocket tubes and just fit it into the MLRS launcher.

While making the molds and casting the hull and superstructure i will go to some RC clubs around to learn. I cant say when i start assambling anything, but i will start making the modifications to the guns and the MLRS.

I will re bump this topic when i have pictures to show, proberbly from creating the mold.

BTW..

Ya hes an awsome dog :) old but stil running strong
