Frau Kaleun was fully briefed on how to act around Subsim members

Do not touch the glass. Do not approach the glass. You pass subsim members nothing but soft paper - no pencils or pens. No staples or paperclips in their paper. Use the sliding food carrier, no exceptions. If a subsim member attempts to pass you anything, do not accept it. Do you understand me?

I take it that you're embarressed about your appearence then. No problem.

How I feel about my appearance is irrelevant. This is an internet forum. When it comes to the internet, the only time I use my real name, pictures of myself, or any information that could allow someone who sees it to pinpoint exactly who and where I am "offline" is when it is required for a business transaction I wish to make or when I have (by choice) already met or will be meeting someone in person anyway. It's an issue of personal privacy and safety.

So come on now, don't be shy. Prove to me that you're female. You can do it by pm, if you're too shy.

Shyness, if and when it exists on my part, is irrelevant (see above).

I have no need and no reason to prove anything to you, nor would my posting or PMing you a picture of a female do so, since I could just as easily PM you a picture of some other random female and you would never know the difference. :O:

What I really need to do is get a picture of myself in gi and black belt, mashing one of my big, male training buddies face-first into the floor with my knee jammed into his spine and one of his arms twisted up behind his back while the other frantically taps the mat for mercy.

Altho I seem to remember using a very nice picture of me in my gi on an old online dating site profile, and some moron there started IMing me saying that it was "too intimidating" (I wasn't doing anything, just STANDING there in a gi, smiling at the camera) and I should use something "softer" and more "passive" if I wanted to attract someone like him. I pointed out that I wasn't interested in attracting anybody, including him, who had a problem with the fact that I knew how to defend myself if necessary. Never heard from him again for some reason... oh well, it's all for the best. He never would've gotten past sensei's Worthiness Panel anyhow. :O:

Pawning and all that POS

The photos in a pm was meant as a joke. I very much doubted you would do it, since you wouldn't share such info in a public thread. If you feel good about having this incognito alter ego here, then go ahead and stay anonymous. I could care less. :|\\
Personally, I don't have a problem showing the forum users who I am, especially because I took part of one of the subsim meets, where everybody makes lots of photos. So what if future employeurs find out I or any of us have a submarine hobby? It has nothing to do with any criminal activity. At the most, it would be something to hide from a potential mr/mrs in the beginning, since it's a nerd thing. :D

Anyway, I don't wanna be "enemies" because of this. If you feel insulted because I asked you how you look and if you wanna share, then so be it. But it was meant as an invitation from my part. Not as an insult. How you deal with it from here, is your affair.:03:

Not sure where you're getting the "enemies" thing, given the :O: appended to my reply, nor do I believe I gave any indication of feeling insulted, any more than I gave any indication of feeling embarrassed or shy. I've already stated why I do what I do and don't do online, so let's just drop it shall we? :DL
I compared you to one of our early members, Sharkstooth, or Sharkey for short. That related to the hardcore attitude. But you also share this in common. She attended a couple of Subsim meetings, and absolutely insisted that her face not be shown in the group pictures, so it was overlaid with the cartoon version drawn by torplexed.

I agree, it's a good idea, especially for a woman, to not be giving away too much information. I can't speak for anyone else here, even the men, but I let my picture and info out simply because I've reached a point in my life where I have nothing left to lose. Also guys tend not to think about things that might happen. Women are much better at that.:sunny:

Generally speaking, we have to be. Not that I consider it an issue with the people I've interacted with here on a regular basis, but as with any large internet group most members don't interact with other members on a regular basis and many never do - so no one never gets to know them at all. But they still have access to whatever information is put out there.

To tell the truth it's more of a personal boundaries thing for me than anything "gender-related" - most of my bad experiences as a result of giving out personal info to people I met online have been with other women, not with men. And certainly nothing that endangered anyone's personal safety as far as I could tell, but enough lines were crossed that I learned where my boundaries are and how best to protect them.

It's from a once-ubiquitous ad campaign here in the States designed to get people to eat more pork products. The tag line referred to pork as "the other white meat." (I guess "other" as opposed to white meat from chicken or turkey which must've been perceived as more popular, thus the pork industry's ads.)

Okay, I just got my mind blown. I was watching the second one and I had to stop and go back again. But there's no mistaking one of the most weird and wonderful tributes I've ever seen or heard.

At 1:15 the chorus comes in. Once they all start dancing, it's a very familiar (if you know it by heart as I do) rythm. It's short, ending at 2:01, but there's no mistaking it.

My daughter and seven other hand picked dancers performed the Riverdance Finale with Jean Butler (accompanying Michael Flatley in the above link) at a NSPCC (National Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Children) fund raiser in the city of Sunderland two years ago.

As the dance was approaching the climatic end, all 2000 of the audience stood cheering and clapping in rhythm to the beat.......all but one, her old man whose legs refused to function and was bubbling like a baby full of pride.

Man bubbling mind ya :DL

Nooooo please tell me.

I saw Riverdance when they first toured the US - it was awesome. Then Flatley started getting a lot of bad press and since then it seems like the whole phenomenon (at least over here) as become little more than fodder for comedians.

But watching that video reminded me of how cool it was to see it live.

Wish I could point to one thing in particular but I don't remember anything specific except after he was over here for a while with the show and was getting a lot of attention from the press, the subtext of the whole Riverdance "story" seemed to change from what an awesome spectacle it was to what a giant tool Flatley seemed to be offstage and in person.

Over the past couple of years I've rarely heard Riverdance or Flatley mentioned except as the punchline of a joke.

The drummer is my sister's husband... she's quite a bit older than me and they were already a couple as young teens when I was a toddler. I don't remember him ever NOT being around, lol.

That was 40+ years ago. He's currently drumming every coupla weeks for the "contemporary" service at the Methodist church they go to, and the last time I heard was still trying to figure out a way to work "Wipeout" into the lineup. Which should answer any questions as to whether or not he's grown up yet. :O:

I expect a owe a lot of my early and persistent musical preferences to their influence - still groovin' on a lot of the stuff I listened to in their company when I was very young. For a while, when they'd moved out of state, I was the "keeper" of a bunch of his old records from the 60s and early 70s. If Iron Butterfly was in there, I never listened to it... but he's definitely to blame for my ongoing appreciation of Grand Funk Railroad.
