I'm not that interested in the game because I'm obsessed with realism. So nothing less than ArmA 2 won't cut it for me :D

But the clip made my day this morning.

Arma 2,

Ive played Arma 1, I failed at flying helicopters, i failed at driving a tank and i failed at even trying to shoot at times :har: To damn realistic for me.

You might like Americas Army 3 if your into realism its free and a good shooter - Played Americas Army 2 for years. Then everyone left and moved to 3.

Umm I die a lot in ArmA 2 too.

But when you are doing well the feeling of reward is enormous.

It's not meant to be played rambo style though. But once the action is coordinated and you've got a nice company backed by some armor or commanding a few tanks yourself it just feels good. :DL

Thanks for recommending AA3. Perhaps I'll give it a try.

ArmA (1&2) isn't overly realistic though, it's more sim light or extra light. The way the AI cheats though is damn annoying (and what makes it so difficult).

Unless AI is handled by an entirely different computer it'll always cheat. "It" knows everything about everything that's going on in the game. It's just how far the devs go to cover this and give the player an appearance of a non-cheating AI.

Arma 1 & 2 is sim extra light ... :woot:

Yeah, raise the bar some more why dont you.

ArmA should make the armor & air more sim-like, looots of work but that would quarantee a huge success as people from 3 different genres would propably end up buying the game. :hmmm:

Well as far as shooters go you can't find one more realistic than a modded Arma2, but it isn't exactly a platform sim in the sense of Falcon 4 or Black Shark. Maybe an "infantry combat sim" or something would be more fitting, because that's what it essentially tries to achieve: Simulate infantry combat with supporting arms on a tactical level.

edit: Yeah Dowly, the armor needs a lot of work. The ACE guys have achieved a lot in this field though, and penetration etc. is actually simulated pretty well now. Try firing a LAW or your MG at a T72 and it won't do **** anymore.

I beg to differ, it will do ****, it will get you killed very quickly, that's what it'll do :03:

As for the comment that the AI cheat I jumped directly to patch 1.05 and my experience has been terrific.

At one or two times I harassed a town with my sniping shots. Relocating always. And for a time the AI didn't know where to return fire from.

I also remembered when I gave another player a support assaulting a town with my squad reinforced by a BRDM-2.

My only gripe is the ballistic table in vanilla is quite disappointing. For example the player can't use the dot ranging of US sniping rifle properly.

But there's ACE2 mod for that but still.
