This sounds like an appropriate use of the National Guard. Not fighting an overseas war.

The best part about using the National Guard is that there are fewer concerns about Posse Comitatus (18 U.S.C 1385).

Kinda gets back to the basics of the National Guard guarding the Nation.

The only problem is that I don't think there is anyway to transfer authority of say the Ohio National Guard to the Governor of New Mexico. So this could only be limited to those states on the border. But the inner states could use their National Guard to "guard" their borders.

Who knows, next perhaps Law Enforcement will be used to enforce the laws?

Wacky ideas I know.

You know, that 1200, i envy those guys. I mean, as a serviceman, how often do you REALLY get a chance to serve and defend our nation, in a DIRECT and tangible way you can see? (IE. On our own soil and not someone elses) I couldn't imagine ones personal resolve and motivation being any higher.

Guardsmen tend to be activated for natural disasters - and morale on those activations tends to be high, even though its basically unskilled labor work.

How many are they are going to catch? 100 maybe?

What they need is unmanned drones and a gov that is perhaps a little less racist as to be more likely to get that support. Instead of being the laughing stock of the US.

I remember reading that AZ's governor requested UAV's and helicopters to beef up the border, but I dunno what became of that.

I hate to burst you bubbles guys but this is a political ploy to look like they are doing something. Its a drop in the bucket and their hands are tied by PC crap. GW Bush used the same plan with more troops and the effect was almost nil.

They are there in a support role only, Apprehension is not allowed. Hell a group of four hundred could walk by and wave and they could only inform the Border Patrol which is completely understaffed and over stretched.

Obuma sent far more national guard to the oil spill regions then to defend our borders.

Same Joke different guy telling it.

Nothing except a few troops because nobody wants to give that trash of a state support except to look like being somewhat tough right now.

My state is not trash thank you. Its a beautiful place full of a wide and varied people and culture. Its desert, its woodlands, its history of Cowboy's and native Americans. It is easy for people across the country to form a media fueled opinion on what Racist bastards we are for wanting to boot out our illegal immigrants. Tolerance and peace, Whatever! I'm with AZ on this one big time. I have worked many job cites where even the hard working ones suddenly swipe your tool bag. They drive wages down across the board.

I feel sympathy for the children, The adults I have none. Get bigger buses!

Nothing of course..

Almost like I expect nothing to become of the promised trooops.

On the bright side the use of UAV's is once again being at least discussed.

Which brings up another question. Dont they have sattellites capable of this sort of thing?

As opposed to over a thousand 'soldiers' UAV's etc?

What about that X3B thingy :03:

By the way I just read in a news feed that these 1,200 'troops' are basically clerical agents un armed and there to 'gather information'.

Oh! By the way, there's a mechanic on his way to have a look at your broke down car, but he's not allowed to make any repairs. But don't worry, you'll still get a bill?!?!

Your government is calling it's citizens idiots.
Please prove them wrong.

Do you have ANY idea how much it costs the CIA to run its birds? Nobody does but the rumor is VERY VERY VERY expensive. Also they are useless for detecting unlawful entry because thermal optics lose resolution fast with distance if you want to see anything at all. You can have something as small and hot as a fighter engine on afterburner or large area like a cloud formation but you cant have both.

While that trash state wont get any UAVs are far better at the role. The people who do it often and guide others across know how to listen for a helo approaching and know how to hide the group but a UAV at altitude is nearly silent to the ground it can track a group and learn of trails and other areas they like to use before directing enforcement to the region. A UAV is far cheaper and its estimated that thousands have been caught due to the limited deployment of them already.

Arizona is a not a trash state.I do not live there but have ties there and have visited many times. The Law is NOT racist, it forbids racial profiling in fact, stop buying into the crap from the Left. Officers cant just come ask for papers etc. They must have contact with you for another reason, say a traffic stop or they catch illegals doing some of their favorite activities like pushing/using drugs, prostitutes, fights, DUI's, hit and runs etc and if suspect you may be an illegal, they can inquire.Nothing to worry about unless you are well, an illegal immigrant because you will get arrested and hopefully deported.

The real "trash" are the people who come to the US illegally, violating our laws and feel entitled to stay when others who have respect are waiting in line to come here. The real "trash" are people who come here illegally and punch out 4 or 5 children and then send them to our already drained public schools. Color does not matter, just at the moment the issue is with the southern border and most who come here illegally across that border happen to be hispanic. The other "trash" involved are people who enable them and try to cause harm to a state that is just standing up for itself and to get a serious problem under control because the Fed govt has failed to do so, which it has the right to do.

It "forbids" racial profiling because racial profiling is not allowed.
How Arizona is going to impliment the law without falling into the profiling trap they have set themselves up for is still a matter they havn't even begun to work out.
They will go the same way as NY has, falling again and again into the expensive pit they dug themselves.

So you are calling the Minutemen "jokes" right? As all they do is the same thing. Watch and report.
No the minutemen are worse, at least the NG will be working in co-ordination with immigration officers, those "patriots" doing the minuteman stunt kept on wasting officers time causing false alarms by setting off sensors which detect illegal aliens(plus a few cases of illegal detention)

While that trash state [...]
There you go with that phrase again. Did Arizona run over your dog when you were little? Did it steal your girlfriend? Or is that just how you always talk about stuff?

Arizona is no more 'a trash state' than Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, or any other state is (Except for maybe New Jersey). They just happen to have a real b*tch of a time with immigrants, drugs, and drug-related crime.

Actually I have to admit that we do complain, quite a bit. Mostly when the "Leafers" are invading but anytime the NY Yankees are mentioned.

We have the floridiots from gods waiting room do the same here. Their max speed on the highways is 55, on curvy mountainous roads, your lucky if they hit 30. It would not be so bad but they are so old your not sure they will survive the drive.......

Time to secure our nation at the voting booths!

Honestly i don't think it matters anymore, at least in some parts of the country. Special interest groups pull political strings and get their way. Getting tough on illegal immigration in CA for example, is NEVER going to happen for that very reason. If anything, we'll start issuing them driver licenses and..... oh wait.. nevermind, i think we already do that. :shifty:
