The same thing that was with kids eighty years ago, swallowing goldfish at parties.

There's nothing wrong with what they're doing, except for the one freak who killed the neighbors' dog, but you get people with problems in every extended group. This looks harmless enough.

what in the hell is with kids these days??Well, these guys are emo's. Obviously. You can tell it from their hair, their clothes, their attitude...
What else could you expect from emo's:O:

Now seriously, I can understand their need to differ from the "normal" kids as I'm part of an alternative group myself (being a metalhead). But I really don't know why they just can't be part of the normal emo movement (in their case). It's not as if there are many of those.

BTW, next subsim werewolf hunt, I'll join the hunt:up:
(whether I'll hunt werewolves or humans remains a secret for now:))

People had you guys not been a teenager too once. They are just simply looking for an identity and social acceptance. They'll get over it and grow to be fine man and woman.

And 15 years from now when they see that video again they will probably be embarrassed and thought I couldn't believe I was that stupid. :haha:

I "pretty much look like them" (if you don't know the differences) and do similar stuff as well. But I don't go pretending I'm a werewolf:doh:

Metalheads and punks and goths and emo's are all alternative cultures. These guys are emo's. Isn't that enough "looking for an identity"? There aren't many emo's, I can barely believe being emo wasn't unique enough for them.

As a metalhead, I can identify myself with metalheads from all over the world. But these guys have got no one to identify themselves with, except themselves. They essentially belong to nothing. That seems like a very lonely life to me.
Anyway, if they want to look and behave like that, be my guest. It's just a bit weird IMHO.

Believe it or not, it gets weirder. I once dated a chick who thought she was a witch, with magical powers and everything. That whole experience was rather odd. For one thing, you'd think a witch would be familiar with a broom. Not this one.:DL

I've also been talking to an emo kid I met on Xbox Live who thinks he's a vampire. Don't call that "to catch a predator" guy just yet, there's more to the story.

For some reason that defies comprehension by the mortal mind, this guy was threatening to kill himself and crying on Call of Duty: World at War. Everybody just laughed at him, but I said to myself "Here's a guy who has some serious f'n problems. He could probably use a friend."

As it turns out, he's from a broken home and his father beats him on a regular basis. He's fat and the other kids at school give him hell all the time..... and kick his ass. This guy has no friends at all save those who are like him. I guess it isn't surprising that they indulge in this vampire fantasy world. I'm no psychologist, but something tells me that there's a psychological term for this kind of behaviour.

Now here's the funny part. I've been talking to this kid on the phone almost every day for like a month now. Every time he has a problem, he calls me and I talk him down and give him what he claims is good advice. That alone is worth at least a few laughs. I mean, when you're so f-ed up that you turn to me for good advice, you've got problems. Who asks a knucklehead gy-rene for life lessons!?

What's worse is that he now refuses to see a professional counselor because he would rather talk to me. He claims that I understand him more than the professionals do. He's even graciously offered to "turn" me. Gee... thanks, kid.

Color me stupid, but is there something beyond wrong with this picture? A complete stranger who is also a jarhead is counseling a kid who apparently thinks he's a vampire and is doing a better job of relating to him than trained professionals!? What are they teaching in psychology courses these days!? I guess school counselors have gotten even more useless than they were ten years ago. Why do we even pay these people?

In the meantime, I'm stuck listening to some emo dude prattling on about all the nuances of vampiricism. Yeah, that's right, there are nuances. It's not just blood-drinking anymore! Apparently, there are different kinds of vampires and hybrid vampires and quasi-vampires and gods that govern vampires and all kinds of other crap. Dear Ms. Landers, please help me.:O:

As for werewolves, those flea-bitten mutts can go straight to hell as far as I'm concerned. The Inquisition will be right back on your asses as soon as you turn up again.:arrgh!:

Let children be raised by people with no bearings in life, and that's the kind of children you get, basically.

But at one time in my life I decided "now it's enough. If I want friends, I have to do something about it. I have to change myself, because all the other people are not gonna change."
It's taken (quite) a while. But it's been well worth it:DL As of now, I'm one of the more outgoing guys at university. If there's a party around, I'll be there.

It's a long and hard road. It takes courage to change yourself like that. But if there is any way for you to talk him into it, try it. It's the only way to become a "normal" person with a happy life and lots of friends.

As one of the commenters there pointed out, maybe remarking on what other people will stoop to "just to get attention" is not a great idea when you are walking around WEARING A FAKE WEREWOLF TAIL.

You're right, but I'm not sure he can change anything. This kid has no self-confidence at all.

Believe me, I've been there. Long ago I used to be somewhat like him. Though I've never been a "vampire" I used to be a fat nerd with "no friends at all save those who were like me". Though my father has never physically abused me, I can't really say he's been the dad I wished for (understatement).
I hear that. I had a terrible time in elementary school, and my dad is also an ass. I was never fat, but I was always very small for my grade. I entered school a year early because my parents thought I could handle it, so I was smaller than everyone else. I pretty much spent the next six years getting my ass kicked all over the place. I still don't understand why big kids beat on little kids.

But all that changed when I got my growth spurt.:DL I had great fun beating the living crap out of all the guys who abused me. I really went to town on their asses. Chris Schultz is never going to forget the ass-kicking I gave him that culminated with him being thrown off the slide tower at the playground.

Lucky me.

But at one time in my life I decided "now it's enough. If I want friends, I have to do something about it. I have to change myself, because all the other people are not gonna change."
And I want to help this kid get to the same point. I'm just not sure how to do it. I think he's experiencing even more insecurity than you or I have ever experienced.

For *******'s sake, he's part of a vampire cult! How messed-up is your life when you end up in a vampire cult? This kid has problems and I'm not sure that I am qualified to deal with them.

You're right, and I have tried to tell him the same thing, but it isn't working. What I've ended up with instead is a person who depends on me for moral support. I think I may be doing more harm than good in this instance.

That too. We never do that, do we? :D:har:

For the record, when I was a teen I tried very hard to look like a Kurt Cobain/Tony Hawk hybrid. When that didn't work out I shaved the sides of my head and pulled the rest of my hair back into a ponytail. To top that off I had a great big pair of round shades, tinted purple. At some point I found an Army/Navy store and took to wearing a beat up pair of 'Nam style combat boots (mit Panama soles), a green beret that was about one size too small for my head, and a collection of "East German work shirts" (complete with a flag on one shoulder). Did I mention that I tucked my jeans into the boots and bloused them out? :yeah:

It never dawned on me how freakish I looked, until one day when I went to the mall with my Mom to pick up a Fugazi album. Two mall rats walked by, took one look at me and busted up laughing. I tried really hard not to blush, but pretty sure my face looked like a beet -- man I was beat. Kept right on going with that style, though, until I found a nice Woodland pattern boonie hat.

To say the least, I didn't hang with one crowd or the other - especially in high school. I had what I figure was my own befuddled sense of fashion and, especially, identity. It strikes me as odd that "kids these days" would want to dress up and act like werewolves or vampires. But I can certainly still remember a little of what life was like during those arduous years of development.

Chris Schultz is never going to forget the ass-kicking I gave him that culminated with him being thrown off the slide tower at the playground.Well I've always had the luck to be pretty large and looking strong (stronger than I actually am). The last time I took a beating must be when I was 6 or so.

And I want to help this kid get to the same point. I'm just not sure how to do it. I think he's experiencing even more insecurity than you or I have ever experienced.Hmm, I'm not really sure either... It's a lot easier to say "you should do this or that" than to actually do it. It must be quite scary for him I guess.

Seriously though, this cult can hardly do any good for him. It will only alienate him more and more from the normal society.
But probably all his friends are in it as well. I can understand he's scared to leave behind those few friends he has.

Outstanding.:salute: Drink a beer for a fellow nerd, will ya'?aye:DL

I think I may be doing more harm than good in this instance. I don't think you're doing more harm than good. If you were not around he'd probably not go seek any professional help either.

Any inspirational words of wisdom from those who are older and/or wiser than me that I can pass on would be appreciated.I wouldn't really know any inspirational words of wisdom. I'm generally not a too inspiring speaker if you ask me:lol:

There is one thing I can recommend though, but you've probably already thought of that yourself. It's much easier to make large changes like these when your social contacts change. For example, if you're switching classes or when you're moving. Those new people can form an unbiased opinion on you.
If something like this is going to happen to his life in the near future, that'd be a good moment to change his life.
