View Full Version : Screen bright, then dark.

I have a nVidia 8800GTX, and was having quite a few problems with the game before the new patch (and I recently upgraded from Vista to 7).

When I go travel through the sub (and it almost always happens beside the radio and sonar guy) the screen goes pitch black, then recovers, and if i changed to outside view it would be fine.

When switchin between inside and external it seems to have some light issues. i think that was one of the things left out of 1.2

Im not having it so much after the two updates,(but just had it there so decided to post) but would be curious to know if anyone else is having it.

The game is really growing on me, and im still mod-less!

Tried dropping all details to min, still no luck. Always happens at the sonar guy.

I have the same card and had the same trouble. I eliminated my trouble by turning on shadows. One would think that would make more trouble, but that fixed mine. I read about it here somewhere.

I had shadows on full, no joy. I had everything up full.

FPS was fine. 50 - 60 external, dropping to 30 or so in boat. FPS is still fine when the problem happens. it just goes dark for a few seconds.

The funny behavior when you go outside is normal. When you first go from inside to outside during the day, it is really bright then mellows out. Or if at night it will be really dark, and then lighten up. I am pretty sure that is an intentional effect to simulate natural eye adjustment(or I could be giving them more credit than the dev's deserve on this one).

However, going pitch black by the sonar man, that is weird. Has anyone with the same card tried enabling some mods, especially one that changes the lights.cfg file? Try http://www.filefront.com/15987937/Na...0Mod%20V1.0.7z

I have tested it with version 1.2 of the game, and it works fine. I know it does some other stuff that you may not want, but this would be the most likely mod fix for this problem.

I might just hold off on the game until patch 1.3 comes out (:o)

If no luck after that ill try the mod you suggested.

What does it do?

Can you tell me if it's related in any way with selecting the sonar man (Or any other character) ? And by selecting I mean the golden contour pops out.

The effect you see when going from inside the sub to outside is the sim, simulating your eyes adapting to the increase in availible light.
In essence, your pupils contracting or dialating.

They call it "light adaptation" in the controlling files, and in fact I think this was adjusted some in the latest patch.

I think the light adaptation fix was pulled, it never made it into the changelog. I think its a stupid idea, i can understand it happening when you are going up and down the ladder, but switching to external cam from internal?

No, occasionally i can get over to select the sonar guy, but usually it just happens when im standing looking at him. i dont know if i manage to get him to highlight before it happens.

The link I posted goes to a big interior mod. I use it, as it mainly just improves some textures around the boat(books, maps, dials fixes, posters, etc.) I would absolutely not hold my breath for 1.3 if I were you. Plus, I would like to see if a new lights.cfg would fix your problem.

Yeah, that fix was excluded I am pretty sure. However, it is the same camera effects, and color correction filters used for regular view as free camera, so there is no way around that.

Pintea, you should get a mod that removes halos like this one: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1556

What was listed in the fixes about this was just an improvement of the effect, not adding it. The effect has always been there.
And sure, it should still do this if you go from inside to outside either by the hatch or going to external view. You are still switching from inside to outside in either case.

I know the effect is already there, but are you sure they actually included any fixes for it(of course I never really had any problems with it)?
