Well I been thinking of just starting over with a new carreer(since I seem to be totally losing and screwing up this latest mission anyway).
And so I wanted to have a different name this time and I wanted it to be my own name but I wanted it to be the German equivilent of it.
So I did the usual Google thing and it came up with lots of sites of course but this one seemed to be simple enough.
http://www.blogthings.com/germannamegenerator/

So, my name of Chuck Duncan came out as "Thorsten Mirko". And well, I kinda like the sound of it actually. So im going with it.
Funny thing is, if I use my name as I was born with, Charles Duncan, it comes out quite different,
"Heiko Jonas"

That's because it's a random name generator. It doesn't really translate your name or anything. If it did, it wouldn't need to change my last name then.

I'm sure someone who knows German will be along soon to help.

I do know that Charles in German is Karl. That one should be obnvious.

My own name is easy, because my ancestors came from England, but centuries earlier were part of the Saxon invasion, so I am Stefan Brodfeldt.

Yup. Giving it the same input 50 times will give you 50 different names.

Yes.

That pretty much made my day.

Mondschein is moonlight in english. ;)
Dunno where you get the drugs from.

It seems to give random combinations of two forenames.

Daniel is a pretty common name in germany.

Hi,

there is no translation for Duncan in german. Its a celtic name and means something like brown or dark warrior.

In german, Charles is Karl or Karol.

Greets,
Paco.

LOL
Indeed.
Some time ago, claiming french roots loud and clear wherever you come from was the classiest thing, just as if a drop of french blood running through your veins was making you a much better guy (even though you don't speak the language and live in a small town in Nicaragua).

My name is far too Irish to have a german equivelant. Knowing the origin and meaning behind my name, what i need to do is find a german name that translates into the same meaning me thinks.

Donald "World-Ruler"
Hogan "Mortal, a young man"

Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?Using this (http://www.keesn.nl/names/en4_list_ele.htm)site and wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_names), I come to something like
Theodoric (People-ruler)
Hunman (Young bear-man)
Which would translate into modern German as:
Dietrich/Dieter Hunmann

My German name would be Friedrich Radstock (instead of Fer Radstake):O:

I have a Barvarian last name and my mother maiden name is 100% German. We still have relatives in Germany. So I got some crack headed name by the generator. Someone posted a nice idea and that is using this generator to name your capt on your next career. I always us my mothers maiden name of Schulthies. My grandfathers name of Anton. So, I sail as Anton Schultheis. :arrgh!:

My name in German would be the same, seeing as half of it is already in German and the other half would be the same in German.

The generator seems to be completely random though...

Hah, well it figures I mean it is the internet after all. And the internet is so full of misrepresentation. It is fun though, I mean hey what the heck.

So at any rate I did like the name it came up with, I'll use it for the new carreer when I get around to comng back to playing. Right now im focused on my other hobby. I do that a lot, hobby hopping that is. I'll get obsessed on one for a time, then switch off.

So, Karl does seem right for Charles and glad someone pointed that out. Hmmm though Duncan as uhhhh a dark warrior seems odd, as odd as me being in that range of person. If anything friends have always though of me as the opposite, a warrior of light if you will.
Yes being a Star Wars fan since it's original release I've always been somewhat fascinated by the Jedi thing. And unlike so many others I had no such affinity for the sith. Geez, remember the shortage of Darth Maul figures? They couldn't keep them on the shelf, and every Holloween there'd be every other kid dressed as him, or Vader.
Hah, but not me...........
It was Obi-Wan or nothing for me. An outfit I did a few years ago. :

Funny thing is that the Name Generator often generates Names that consist of two first names "Heinrich Olaf", "Karl Wilhelm", "Sascha Ewald" and even throws in an occasional turkish first name as last name "Peter Mehmet". :hmmm: :)

I know this is SH5, and SH3 Commander is only for, um, what was that game again? But I use it for my captain's name in SH4, and you should download it and use the name selector function for SH5 as well. No other functions will work with SH5, but Commander has a database of 42,000 actual u-boatmen, and they are divided into first and last names, giving a selection of over 1,700,000,000 names. Yes, that's 1.7 billion! And they are all real German names.:D
