View Full Version : Working on-board dials and displays

I'm enjoying operating my Type VIIA U-boat with the HUD turned off as much as possible. The immersion factor is a big thing for me. So, I've been trying to use the on-board dials and displays to get any necessary information. Current depth and compass heading are available in a few different places. As is the time. But, is there a knot meter that works somewhere on-board? :06:

Also, if someone has already gone through the trouble, could you publish a list of all working dials and displays. This would be a great help. :D

I am playing with the latest 1.2 patch and mod-free.

Oh, while I'm at it, is there a way to leave a station without using the big red "X" button on the HUD?

Thanks in advance!

All the relevant dials in the control room and attack scope should work. <-- totally wrong, ignore me.

You can ESC out of stations as well.

The dials in the control room and conning tower do all seem to work. I've been carefully checking them out. I guess my problem is that I haven't recognized which is the knot meter. I saw a dial which I thought could be a knot meter, but it was reading "4" when I know I was at Half-Speed and doing around 9 knots (according to the HUD). At this point in time, I cannot post a screenshot (I have too little RAM to take one). Perhaps, some one could verbally describe where a working knot meter resides. Or, better yet, post a pretty picture. :D

I'll try ESC to exit my stations. :salute:

Thanks!

I thought I had pictures of all those dials, since someone had asked which are working before, but they are at home. :O:

I seem to remember the compass in the attack room works correctly, but the indicator needles are pointing down instead of up. So your course is the top value, not where the lines are.

Just have to look down next to the planesman down in the dark corner of the control room to see it. :)

Woohoo! That's great! Thanks! :woot:

Now, what is the command key combination for "Squat"? :haha:

I also noticed this. Along with a host of other useful information, I just "order" a status report (Enter, on the keyboard, if you didn't already know), and receive a prompt and respectful statement of CO2 level, etc. "Herr Kaleun" has his crew do the grunt work. :salute:

I think this is one of the most overlooked aspects of SH5. It's finally possible to play more like a real sub skipper with this game. I would suggest looking into a few of the crew mods, however, to cut down on all the running around. They did have voice tubes and other officers on real boats so Herr Kaleun did not have to run everywhere himself. :DL

Personal favorite, the More Crew Commands by Dialog mod, very useful with or without the HUD:

Edit: Also check out the working interior dials mod:

Oh these sound perfect! I'm pretty much HUD-free already and these will probably take me all the way there. :yeah:.

I've noticed where there are a few of the voice tubes and can feel comfortable "yelling" my orders (via command keys) from anywhere inside the boat and on the bridge. However, when I'm standing on the deck, especially at the stern, I don't think I can "yell" loud enough and may have to move my lazy butt up to the bridge. :haha:

Loving SH5!

I'm enjoying it too, and haven't even gotten into the meat of the game yet with the patches and all those wonderful mods to experiment with. Taking my time and having fun.

Immersion seekers must check out Skwas's Speech Recognition. You actually speak (or shout :arrgh!:) to your crew. That mod made my Kaleunish dreams come true...

Right here in subsim:

Very "real" feel, you have over five pages of commands to use (and you can add more with little editing), almost everything can be commanded with your own voice. I use mouse and keypad basicly just for moving and to use periscopes. "Crash Dive!", "Set course to two, two, five degrees", "Hydrophone, follow nearest soundcontact", "New depth thirty meters", "Everybody quiet..." "Ahead one thirds".

It's all there...

Thanks for Skwasjer for this fantastic mod!
