Hello Everyone!
A few weeks ago I learned about the Silent Hunter series, and since then I have had a crash course in all things SH3. I am absolutely amazed at the strength of the community in these forums, and very thankful that so many have put forth so much effort to make this game so amazing. I'm currently running SH3 with GWX 3.0 Gold and SH3 commander. One of the fantastic GUIs will be next.
I decided to learn manual plotting and targeting right from the start, and just finished my first patrol at 90% realism (I use the external camera to watch my torpedoes--I can't resist). My first kill was a real thrill: late evening September 1939, heavy seas, and a Granville merchant. Sunk it with a single stern shot. Managed to sink two more merchants before returning to port low on fuel.
In RL, I'm a former US Navy submarine officer (1998 - 2003). I served aboard one of the vertical launch SSNs. Returning to submarines for FUN is a great experience!
Thanks again for the great mods and the great forum.
