View Full Version : Never-ending patrol: Bug?!

I've been patrolling the Hanshou (sp?) islands for over 48hrs. Whenever I radio in status report, I get a message telling me to continue for two more hours. I then wait, and the process continues. Is this a bug, or will I eventually get assigned elsewhere? I am using TMO with training wheels in version 1.5. I've never had this happen!

TIA!

just give it time. I have the issue that after my patrol time has ended and im low on diesel needing to return to midway they tell me to proceed to another A.O. near china. My port of call is Pearl...

I don't have TMO w TW so I don't know if there is a bug. But a simple solution, Stop sending Status Reports and they will stop telling you what to do and YOU can Captain the boat. Go where you want and do what you want, tell them about it when you get home. :arrgh!:

What was the time and radius of stock?

Anyways stay close to the icon on the map for a while and eventually you'll get the patrol complete. I know, I had an issue with that thing too. In TMO it tells you the exact radius and the exact time to patrol.

I am quite new (well im an old hand, but been away for a long time) here myself so what i say may not be correct (only my understanding of how it works).

1. Whenever i am given a mission: Go to A. stay within X nm for Y hours
I locate the place on the map, draw a sircle with the correct distance and stay within it for the duration, Y hours. I zig zag and move within the sircle, but always within it.
I have yet to encounter any problems with the mission not ending on time.

2. The status report you send over the radio is just that. a status report which normally
doesnt change your orders. As for the wait 2 hours, i believe it is strictly a way of saying: "we dont want endless status reports from you, please wait at least 2 hours before you send the next status report". And as such has no impact on your current orders.

at least this is what i believe :)

that sounds about right nappy.
The two hrs might have also been to make it harder for the japs to triangulate your position.

Don't call in until the star grays out. In TMO your orders should be very specific as to distance and time.
Use the radio as little as possible, one of the reasons it's called "The Silent Service" The Japanese were very good at radio detection.

Nappy nailed it right on the head.

I agree, if you haven't completed your mission objective, they'll tell you to shut up for at least two hours :haha:

In stock its what? 50 nm radius for 48 hours? Anyone remember?

A8Q, yes, for stock it's 50nm for 48 hrs.

If you're using TMOwTW check your first message, it will give you a time and distance, with TMO it could be up to 72 hours. However, I've never heard or seen the message wait a mere two more hours.

Don't leave the zone, if you do the timer restarts.

When in doubt, forget orders and go sink ships. It's always worked for me.:03::yeah:

Agreed, nappy is right, you're probably going off the mission goal radius and the time frame does not compute 'mission acomplished'.

Try checking another thing. Missions are always given in nautical miles (when they give you a radius or something), even if you are set to metrical system. At first that should not be a problem since kilometers are smaller than NMs so, if you are computing a X-kilometers radius instead of the same "x" in NMs, you are still well within the patrol area.

So what could be happening is that you are making some conversion error or somethin'?

But that's all irrelevant. We had a discussion here some time ago: if you don't fulfill mission goals, impact on renow is a big deal or a small deal?

The answer we eventually got is that unfulfilling goals does not impact too much your renown, as long as you have a good tonnage.

So what you do if you have your own priorities (sinking ships!)? Go after them, raise all kinds of hell, and if you feel like saying "shove it!" to comsubpac, do so. Unfulfilling mission goals does not prevent you from returning to port.

I think we all do that ocasionally.

Do y'all realize you're responding to a thread from well over a year ago?
