Haven't seen it yet, but the scene in the trailer with the wooden oar-powered Higgins LCPs (including drop ramps) had me laughing.

Yeah, cuz when I get in the theater and I'm watching Russell Crowe ride around all suited up like a scruffy medieval knight making fools and mincemeat of assorted evildoers using a wide variety of antiquated small weaponry, if he opens his mouth and the accent doesn't sound exactly like the real Robin Hood, I'm telling you, screw that, I'm outta there.
Only, you know, NOT. :O:

A couple of those I didn't even know existed.
I do object to them giving a Miss to Shrek's Monsieur Hood, since everything in that movie is a full-on Hit IMO.
The only one I'm really familiar with is the Errol Flynn version, having seen that movie many times from early childhood on.
Still scratching my head over Kevin Costner. Makes about as much sense to me as Richard Gere as Lancelot in whatever that movie was. (First Knight? Ugh, the title alone sucks.) Some actors just don't work in period pieces, period.

Don't be silly, everyone knows that in Roman times people all spoke with English accents. Just watch I, Claudius if you don't believe me.

They left out Douglas Fairbanks Sr's silent version (I own a copy and it alternates between powerful and silly), and Jason Connery (Sean's son and Michael Praed's successor in the wonderful '80s Robin Of Sherwood).

I thought there had to have been a least one silent version, too much of a classic story not to have been filmed early on. And Fairbanks certainly would've been the man for it.
Wondered where Sean's boy was too since I was pretty sure he'd been cast in the role at some point. I guess since they included the series they figured they covered it.

I'm surprised the Irish are not up in arms...after all, there is a claim that Robin Hood by Crowe sounds Irish and Robin Hood was after all a criminal as he stole from the rich and gave to the poor which really was a cover up but I would think the Irish would see this as some sort of racial modern day profiling that is highly opposite political correctness and run on sentences like I have here.
I will see this movie no matter if Crowe sounds Irish or not. I will drink Irish whiskey before I go.

Of course there's no real evidence that any such person ever lived, and the earliest tale that mentions a king says "Our good King Edward", presumably Edward I Longshanks, John's grandson, and the earliest mentioned town is not Nottingham and the earliest mentioned forest is not Sherwood, but still...

I'm sure technically, Robin Hood should have a Sheffield accent, he is after all Lord of Locksley, which is now a suburb of Sheffield.

Actually Locksley doesn't enter into the tales until more that one hundred years after 'Piers Plowman'. It's another add-on.

Did I read that right, or did you mean poetical license? Fine either way.:sunny:
As far as books go, this one does a deep exploration of all the earliest tales, and looks at the times during which they were written. Not every book, no, but I'll believe this one before I trust any claims from two hundred years later.

We Brits know what really happened.....
Robin Hood lay dying, and all the faithful gathered round.
With his weak and fading breath, Robin asked Marion to bring him the best arrow from the quiver beside his bed, and then asked Little John to bring him his bow.
He put the arrow to the bow and aimed through the open window into the generous green sward of Sherwood Forest beyond which he loved so much.
He asked of Friar Tuck, "Promise me that wherever the arrow falls, there you will bury me."
And when Tuck had sworn, Robin Hood demanded the same of the others.
Then with his last strength he drew on The bow and let the arrow fly.
And then he died, smiling.
And next day, they did as they had promised, they buried Robin Hood....... on top of his wardrobe.

The original:
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood
He called the greatest archers to a tavern on the green
They vowed to help the people of the king
They handled all the troubles on the English country scene
And still found plenty of time to sing
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood
He came to Sherwood Forest with a feather in his cap
A fighter never looking for a fight
His bow was always ready, and he kept his arrows sharp.
He used them to fight for what was right
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood
With Friar Tuck and Little John they had a roguish look,
They did the deed the others wouldn't dare.
He captured all the money that the evil sheriff took,
And rescued many a lady fair
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood
To cheating and corruption, he would never, never yield
And danger was his breakfast ev'ry day
The cobler in the hamlet and the farmer in the field
Were always helping him get away
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood
He rode up to the palace and was cheered by ev'ryone
His Lady Marian threw him a rose
The King of England knighted him the Earl Of Huntingdon
And that's the way that the legend goes
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood
