Is it only my impression or is this forum on the verge of a "civil war" with more than two factions after the release of SH5? Unless that there's no slaves to be freed here ... Or maybe there are, but they don't know they're slaves and don't know who their masters are as well.

Yes its only your opinion.

There have been disagreements and diferences of opinion as long as there has been a forum.

Nice try though. ;)

Arrr, this be true.

But differnces in opinion are good, it means we are all thinking.
For any two people that are always in agreement then only one is doing the thinking.

A thread like this wont help anything either. The entire front page of SH5 forum is full of negative threads, that begs everyone to chime in. Yes we are all upset to some degree or another about the state of the game and how ubi has treated us as a customer and community. Tempers flare. But if everyone makes a thread to gripe about each individual thing its only going to fuel the fire. If we keep our gripes regulated to a master thread like we did with the patch when the whole 1.2 patch debauchery started the forum can return to a state where there is actual helpful threads on the front page especially for people who are new and looking for help.

I discovered this forum when SH5 was first released, which was also when I discovered the Silent hunter series in general, I use to play sims but took a long hiatus, my last sim being Janes' USAF GOld I believe. If I stumbled across this forum as a new player in this state, I probably would have imediatly returned the game and never dove into the SH series.

Yes the point of a forum is open discussion but the overall mission of this forum is to promote Sub simulations, aid new players, discuss tactics and what not. We're the community, we shouldnt be at each others throats.

I am by no means saying Im happy with the state of the game. I havent loaded it since march 10th I think. And Ive been happy play Sh3 with GWX and SH3 commander, and I also have 2 installs of sh4 to play both OM and TMO (RFB was too much of a learning curve for me, need to learn the nuances of the boats before I can give that one another go). We have been wronged pretty badly by UBI. with their lack of communication with their english audience, and blatent lack of effort to address any problems.

But what we dont need is infighting, or any provocation of infighting, in the "To UBI" thread we already have some modders arguing, hopefully they have resloved that and can come to terms I love the work of all the modding parties. If they could come together and work towards a common goal rather than bicker this game can probably be saved.

Just my thoughts and sorry for longwinded ness.

+1 ! I totally agree with you! We don't need this kind of attitude here, especially thinking that this game is AWSOME!!! The greatest subsim ever with astonish graphics and AI as well. So, **** off Chicolatino, go away, we don't need you, we are very happy with the game, so there's no civil war.

:sign_yeah:The community is just to big and diverse for there not to be.

The mood around here is very similar to when SH4 was released and I am sure SH3, and people got over themselves eventually.

Again you miss the point, which isn't about what games are good or bad. The point is that Chicolatino's very first post was about what he saw as a war brewing, and others disagreed. Your very first post was to attack him and tell him to "**** off!" and then tell him he wasn't wanted here.

He has a right to express his opinion, as do you. The difference is he didn't attack somebody for expressing an opinion, and neither did I. You did, and that's what's wrong with pretty much every post you've made so far.

I won't tell you to leave, because that would be just as wrong, and also because I don't want you to leave. But you need to learn about propriety and proper discussion and debate.

You missed my point abit there, I said I was very not happy with the game thats why its been shelved. I was merely trying to state we dont have and dont need a civil war. And the forum doenst need to be full of negative or bickering threads. If a new person was looking for help they wouldnt find it on the front page of the forum, minus the stickies, and their posts would be quickly pushed to the bottom of the pile of threads of people arguing basically the same thing. Everyone dissapointed with SH5 is basically disapointed about the same things. no need for 15 threads. It should be regulated to a master thread like the 1.2 patch thread. Im happy you agreed with me but did ya read my whole post. I wasnt mearly trying to bash chicolatino for suggesting the civil war and by no means was trying to get rid of him

Aye Aye Steve! We should be able to discuss as a bunch of mature adults. This isnt a FPS multiplayer forum where everyone is a "newb" for their suggestions. I use to play navyfield and though their forums could be helpful they were often very negative. Especially if some one asked a question that had already been answered

any new play asking a question was responded to with :

READ THE STICKIES! USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION! Most new players were just hopin for a quick answer and get yelled at and told to dig thru tons of posts to find their answer rather than play the game and learn. I dont want that here and this forum has been a very helpful and positive place in my 3 months here now.

In response to the OP; what you're seeing here isn't Civil War, it's people who care about subsims debating the wisdom of the journey that Ubisoft chose to take the Silent Hunter franchise on.

If you want to see Civil War, go and check out the GWX/Ducimus posts in the early days of SHIII. :) Now that was showbusiness! :DL

ah yes, those were days, way before most of the young whippersnappers around here even knew how to type on a keyboard. ol' Duci even did brig' time over that.

Things were so heated there is even a rumour that posters almost got up from their computer keyboards to actually argue with each other face-to-face instead of just posting harsh words on a forum. :arrgh!:

Sailor Steve

Well, if we're going to be serious again, these days an argument is defined as disagreement or contention, but originally it meant the logic or reasoning of a stated position. Legal dictionaries define it as "the reasoning given for or against a matter under discussion".

But of course my statement was a quote from the Monty Python sketch, and was meant to add to the train of fun. With a couple of exceptions I seem to have failed.:D

Who ever said the Civil war was about slavery? Stupid liberal educational system these days! Errr! :nope:

The Civil War was about States rights! The South wanted to secede from the Union due to unfair taxation imposed on them by President Lincoln. The Southern land owners were wealthy and the North wanted to sink their teeth into that wealth. When the South refused and seceded from the Union, Lincoln declared war on the South and used violence and intimidation as a means to get what he wanted.

Black slavery happened EVERYWHERE at that time (Both in the North and in the South). But Lincoln, in a desperate effort for popularity when Union morale was at an all-time-low, and in hopes of creating behind enemy lines sabotage in the South, freed Black slaves ONLY in the South. He still had them mending his trousers, cleaning his home, and running him a bath up North however.

After the war ended, the North felt the need to come up with other excuses for why they attacked, raped, pillaged, and burned down the cities in the South. Because let's face it, it's pretty hard to justify straight up mas murder as a noble deed! So they exaggerated up stories about slave mistreatment in the South to put a complete spin on why the war started. Today, our liberal educational system teaches us that President Lincoln was a great man and that the Civil war was about slavery and that the big bad Southern white man had an ass whupping coming to him! LOL! :rotfl2:

Just think of how history books would have been written if the South had won. We'd be better taught about the evils of dictatorships and tyrannical rule instead. We definitely wouldn't have a current President that felt that a person's good fortune and wealth should be robbed from them by the government and given over to someone else who is less fortunate and/or too lazy to work. Anyways, that's just my $0.02.

Agreed.

It's also a good example of the lame Ad Hominim response to criticisms of this game (or whining as he calls it). Instead of attacking the person, tackle the crticisms of the person you think is 'whining' and why you think his points are wrong.

If his points are valid, you calling him a whiner is going to get you labeled as weak-minded, easily-pleased fanboy :)
