Right. This is it. I'm doing it.

Starting a career, not even a patrol, a CAREER, in real time. My rig won't take running it 24/7, so it'll come in installments. Luckily, I'm a student, and I have a load of free time. I'm starting it tonight, with vanilla SH3, and SH3 Commander. Realism is around 50 - 60 percent, as I've never been too good at Silent Hunter, and I want to make it enjoyable.

I'm going to document it here, but I put it to you guys, would you rather take just updates, or, as I was thinking, would you prefer to read an in character captain's log? Just a quick survey before I start really.

I've always liked both but an in character is usually more immersive.

That was my choice too mainly, the reason I chose to do 1x was the immersion mainly. First entry will probably come tomorrow morning.

Luckily I have a pre pay meter, so I just need to top it up occasionally. It lasts quite a while, and I don't really have many other electric appliances.

Performing arts actually, so I do a little less work.

Have a look at the Enigma Forum, and learn how to encode the results of your missions...

you have more abilty to deal with boredom then I do, heck, I can't stand to go though the Kiel Canal as I can only do 4x though there (Though I thought about doing it once on x1 to see it, and read a book while my U-boat plods along.

Though I am a stickler that once have a contact, it is x1 as I intercept/flee depending on the contact.

I could never do a 1X game. I'm lucky to get to play three hours a week. At that rate it would take one year to complete one week of game time.

Use SH3 Commander to set 'When Near Land' TC to 128, or anything you like. Just be careful.:sunny:

I suggest doing just a single patrol in real time first.

In Aces of the Deep (20 years ago or more) I did similar with 'alarms' sending me out of bed in the middle of the night into the war. I could be spending days with no events but it was a helluva good time!!

I was able to really tune into the moment ... plus I enjoyed the sound of the sea & boat as background noise ...
