Hi , I'm new.
Anyway, I'm upgrading my PC in around mid June. I was wondering if these specs were ok to run SH5 on the highest settings;
Win XP SP3 Home edition
Nvidia GT240 1GB GDDR3 Graphics card
4GB RAM
INTEL Core i5-650 at 3.2GHZ (Dual Core)
500W Power supply
Would the fact that Win XP can only run DirectX 9 limit the performance I get from SH5 ?
P.S. Hope I've posted this in the right place

One of the requirements ( not the only one ) to play SH5 at full resolution is to have the memory of the video card with above 512Mb memory ,but I think with a nVidia 240 , you can normal get at most 15 or 20 FPS playing SH5
With a 8800GT I usually get around 10 -15 FPS
I already bought my brand new ASUS EAH5870 V2 DirectCU , I just play one game ,the SH5 , and I want to play this SH5 game with the best graphics
.

I can play SH5 with max settings and my specs are lower than yours, except my gfx card.
I get over 60 fps.
sometimes fps drop to 30+ when i have alot of DD circling above me, while im stood in the control room. But i only notice this decrease in fps because i had the fps shown in game.
My specs :-
Athlon 3500+ (singlecore CPU)
Radeon HD4870 (1gb gddr5)
4 GB RAM
Windows XP Pro 32bit
SH5 is DX9, so you will not see any improvement with a DX10 card and vista/win7.

Thanks, maybe I should get a Radeon HD4870 would that be better than a Geforce GT240 GDDR3 ?
Can SH5 make use of Quad core processors ?

A 4870 is MILES better than a GT240. Hell, even a 4770 is much better and the game runs fine(I have one).
Quad cores don't make much difference. As you can see a user here has just a single core and runs fine. The game engine is too primitive to take much advantage of even dual cores.

thanks for the quick response, is it ok to have an intel processor and an ATI graphics card? or would an AMD processor work better with an ATI card ?

the specs listed above more than meet the minimum system requirements. You should be able to play SH5 fine. :yeah:
If i were you i would try SH5 on max settings to see how it performs before you consider buying/upgrading your system. You dont want to spend more money than you need too.
I'm not sure how well your graphics card performs with SH5, but this is the weakest part of your system. So for max settings you may need to replace this (and posibly your power supply. as newer cards require more power). All other specs are fine to run SH5 at max settings.
Hope this helps.
good hunting :salute:

The CPU has no effect on the gfx card. you can happly mix/match ATI and intel. And same goes for AMD and Nvidia.

I have a Intel 2,4Ghz quad core and a ATI 5770 1Gb and run maxed.
I have not checked if the game uses quad core, but I can check
