I like this radio station addition that the devs put in SHIV, but how do you add more? I'm downloading the Japanese wartime radio, and the Toyko Rose broadcasts. How do you add them in?

NHK Radio has a readme included with instructions.

If you still can't get it after reading the readme, just let me know and I'll help you out.

That would be me. I still don't get it after reading the readme. I copied the noted lines into the radio.ini and the station does dial in during the game. It's December 1942 and I believe NHK has events during that time. Yes I added the event folder to the path directed in the readme.

This is the second radio station that I added that doesn't work so I admit and acknowledge that its me that's goofed. I humbly ask for help.

If I'm not mistaken, you won't hear anything on NHK until late in the war 44'/45'. I don't think there are any events or broadcasts until then.

There are only two early events in on this station, copied below. Also there is no music to play randomly in the default DL, you need to add this seperately. Look for the Japanese music mods and add them to your folder (not the event folder) and the radio station will work.

I stand corrected. Thanks BillBam.

Does this mean events are only played during the day and hour of the event? Or does it play at random anytime after the start date?

Fish40
05-16-10, 02:28 PM
That's correct. The event will play only on a specific date and time.:yep:

Well then that's my problem then. That is only for the event driven media though, isn't it? Music can be place in the station folder and not be event driven. I know that since I've been able to do just that with one station. However why can't I have multiple stations with different music? No events.

What's wrong with this setup that it doesn't work?

You can have as many stations as you want practically. You just need to create folders for them, then info like above for the radio.ini. There's even a way to have multiple stations use the same folder. You just have to decide what you want, then create it.

I don't see anything wrong with your radio.ini. Are you getting any sound when it stops on a station?

Try moving some music from another folder into your NHK folder. If there are no events scheduled for your time then all you will get is static, put music there and it will play that music. As noted above there are 3 or 4 difference Japanese music mods available that you can add to this folder.

Well I gave that a try and what do you know it works. My NHK folder now has some music in there and it plays just like the other station. However the third channel, Saigon folder just plays static. Do all station folders need an event log even if no events are present?

Thanks for the help.

No they don't. It sounds like either Saigon is not installed right, or somehow the music files that come with it got corrupted and the game can't play them.

Tackling the first possible issue, is there a "Saigon" folder in the "Data\Sound\Radio" folder of your SH4 install? And if so, is there anything in it?

Yes and yes. The music files are fine and play in any other folder except Saigon folder. I even checked to see if the folder is spelled correctly but I'll check again anyway.

I'm going to let this one go. I moved the French music into the gramophone where it plays fine. The Japaneses music works in the NHK radio station too. So the Saigon station is a mystery but no big deal. Thanks to those that help me out.

Along these lines...I have my radio file paths set correctly. However, when I hit the radio button and start the radio playing, it begins on 22.00 Washington, but when I hit next station, the dial starts spinning and doesn't stop on any other station; and I can't seem to manually stop it exactly on another station i.e. 122.00 Radio Saigon.

Any help would be appreciated..those long patrols in the Pacific need some music and news!

Royce

Is the station programmed in your radio.ini file?

BB- I believe it is..copied it from the readme file.

If you copied it from the readme your radio.ini should like this.

[GENERAL]
RadioRealism=Yes
StartCh=1

[CHANNEL]
Name=Washington
Folder=Washington
Freq=18
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:44.16,-35.10:100000
;MusicVolumeOnNews takes values from 0.01 to 1
MusicVolumeOnNews=0.4

[CHANNEL]
Name=Saigon
Folder=Saigon
Freq=122
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:10.30,-106.75:100000
For me it does stop at the station 122 but continues to play static. It takes quite some time for the dial to spin from frequency 18 all the way up to 122. It should stop there though and start playing. Not that I have had any luck with it.

This is what's in mine:

[CHANNEL]

Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:10.75,106.67:100000

The only difference is the -106.75 in yours, but with the 100000 following it that shouldn't make any difference in playing.

Is this your complete radio.ini, or do you have other stations installed? There's no reason why this shouldn't be working, or why we can't get it fixed.

Yes that did the trick. You should update the readme file on your download to reflect the change.

Thanks

With the code you listed in this thread;

[CHANNEL]
Name=Saigon
Folder=Saigon
Freq=122
Antenna=01.01.1930-01.01.2000:10.75,106.67:100000

The line with MusicVolumeOnNews is probably the key.

Well that's weird because that line only comes into play if you have scripted events to play. It lowers the volume of the music until the event finishes. But Saigon doesn't have any events. :hmmm:

As for fixing the readme, Saigon is not created by me. Ziem created it. I just mirror it because his original download links don't work anymore. It's not my file to edit.

Anyway, glad you finally got it working. :DL
