I know for a time it was donation only but to be released for free later. Anyone know where the free one is or if it was released? I can't seem to get that forum to work for me, I can't make any reply or threads there it just causes my browser to flash and bumps me to the end most tab on my tab bar and does not open anything for reply or PM ect and then the java drop menus cease to function so I can't even PM anyone to ask. So, I'll hafta ask here. The above is a link to the donation one..

:o
The whole idea was for Neal to raise money to keep this site running for all the FREE stuff.

Five bucks is not much to ask to keep this wonderful site going.
Edit: Sorry, that was a bit harsh. My apologies.

well that was a bit harsh. So the promis of a free version was just a smoke screen? Anyways, if the narwhal (or other popular SH4 mods) is drawing too much of your bandwith, I could assist by hosting it so it wouldn't be nessecary to charge and would lessen your hosting costs by spreading the heavy stuff on other places. You guys could link it. I'm sure your entire site's bandwidth would be a drop in the ocean compared to what filefront puts out n a daily basis so it's not a big deal.

I'm the culprit of the "misunderstanding"
Didn't know any better than the mod would be released for free later on (note: in the linked thread I did say "guess it will be free later on"), but since this apparently is an issue, please check your PM. I've uploaded a copy just for you - and free of charge!
Enjoy!

First of all your "smoke screen" comment was uncalled for. The information you received was received from another site as shown by your own link to it, and not by Subsim. I also did not see any "Promise" anywhere here or on Ubisoft forums.
The Narwhal thread in the Mods forums states:
SH4 Narwhal mod donation download (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/../mods1/keltos/narwhal_mar2010.php) :ping:
Thanks to everyone for their hard work and generous spirit to allow Subsim to host this as a donation download :salute:
and states nothing about anything free.
It was also stated in your source that:
you donate $6 for a download link.
I don't see any set amount for the donation anywhere on Subsim.
Also I doubt the download of the Narwhal is making much of a difference to the cost of keeping this forum running. And hosting it on your site would kind of defeat the purpose of having donations. It is like any local organization putting on a spaghetti dinner to raise money. People don't go so they can get overcharged for Spaghetti on a paper plate, they go to donate money to a worthy cause.
Salute to Jay Kyster :salute: for stepping up and admitting he may have misunderstood and gave some misinformation.
But Starforce, don't come to Subsim and complain about a "Smoke Screen" that you read at Ubisoft. Go to Ubisoft forum and tell them about it. At Subsim it is spelled out quite clearly in the Narwhal thread which is stickied in the MODs forum. It is for donations, no set donation price, and you choose to donate or not, nobody is setting up any 'smoke screens'.
Since it is not my site, I have no idea how much the 'cost' would go down by hosting downloads at your site, but I do know a LOT of people that have problems downloading from Filefront. (and I DO NOT mean you site, I am taking Filefront in general). I have had several people PM me to ask me to put it up on another site because they are having trouble getting it. I personally do not have a problem, but others do.
Just my 2 cents, but I feel you should take your complaints to where you got your information.

Sorry, I assumed the same people who posted it at ubi where the same people who posted it here and the ones doing the mod. As for 6 bucks I had heard 5. As far as having issues downloading from filefront..you do know they have new owners right? Not the defunct ones from before or issues with backlogged teck support when the owners brought it back (I've noticed so much fewer problems when posting files since they took over) so maybe anyone with that issue should explain what it is. Maybe it's certain ISP's or browsers?? I just know I've almost never had issues unless everyone has issues.
