Okay I saw that Eu was going to these things and I laughed. Silly goverment and its overaching control.

Today I saw this...

That cash -- roughly $180,000 collected from 19,000 residents-- will pay for new larger recycling carts equipped with computer microchips, which will allow the city to keep tabs on its bins and track resident participation in the city's recycling program

Wow so not only do they want to track your participatoin they want to charge you to do so

"If you know who's participating in the programs, you can focus your education and outreach to those who are not participating," said Stacy Herring, Alexandria's recycling coordinator.
:haha:
So you will be shown videos on how to correctly recycle...
you will have periodic junk mail sent to you...
you will, once a week have "visits" by a council rep to do inspections...

The article is misleading. (A newspaper misreporting the news to incite emotional responses? Say it aint so, joe, Say it aint so.)

In the city of Alexandra, every resident is charged a Solid Waste User Fee, which is added to their bi-yearly tax assessment bill. This fee is used to pay for the city's waste disposal and recycling program. Since it is a city tax, any increase must be paid equally by every city resident. This is why even if the resident chooses to use the old bins, they are still taxed at the same rate as everyone else.

http://alexandriava.gov/tes/solidwaste/info/default.aspx?id=19204

Virginia Code section 2.2-2668 requires the Recycling Markets Development Council to monitor adherence to Virginia Regulations Chapter 130.

Virginia has mandatory recycling requirements. We have a two tiered system

Localities or regions (called Solid Waste Planning Units or SWPUs) with population densities less than 100 persons per square mile or with an unemployment rate 50% higher than the statewide average now qualify for a 15% mandated recycling level, with all others remaining at the 25% recycling mandated level.

http://www.deq.state.va.us/recycle/mandatory.html

The micro-chipping of the recycling bins seems to be the cheapest and least intrusive way to monitor compliance with state regulations. The other choice would be for State/county/city inspectors to visit and look at your trash. I am sure most residents would not like that.

It can be debated whether Virginia should have a mandatory recycling program. But it does and it is the law. But the laws are not written for the individuali, but for the cities and administrative areas. It is the city that will be penalized if the city does not adhere to the state regulations not the individual.

Alexandria is using the micro chipped bins as a means of surveying, quickly and cheaply, which areas of the city are following the state regulation.

Mr. Heid is just trying to stir up emotional responses, and evidently has succeeded.

That right there is enough to evoke an emotinal reponse frome me. "Compliance with state regulations" ... Its freakin trash what are they going to do cuff me and dragg me off to the goolag because I put glass in with the plastic

Why does the goverment feel compelled to monitor every freakin aspect of my life?

Answer..... Control.

Oh almost forgot to add... Mr. HA HA...

The chips in the UK ? They are able to weigh the contents of the container and they charge you by the pound ;)

So put all the heavy crap in your neighbors bin :D

Thankfully, we haven't got them yet :03: But yeah, that's probably the tactic most people will use! :haha:

No, if you would choose to read the law, you would know that the individual is not fined at all, it is the city/administrative district. There is no criminal penalty for this regulation.

Since conservatives seem to only be concerned about the government victimizing them, does that mean they have no problem w/corporations being predatory?

You're really starting to act like a troll, you know that? How about you leave off the hatred and actually contribute to the discussion?
