Will try to implement a list of Greek mythological names for the subsim Enigma Forum. ( just to differentiate us from the lot ) Vanity vanity... Eheheh ! :D
I used to germanise my real name :woot: but now I use the sh3 commander names
I use the translation of my real name to the proper language :)
When playing SH3/SH4 UBM I am "Albrecht Von Hansen"
When playing SH4 fleet boats I am "Al Johnson"
When playing russian subs in DW I am "Albert Albertevitsch Ivanov"

I use SH3C to generate a random name every time I start a new career. My current one is Erich Leibrock.
Wreford-Brown

Commander Wreford-Brown was captain of the HMS Conqueror when it sank the cruiser ARA General Belgrano during the Falklands War of 1982. He is the only nuclear-powered submarine captain to ever sink a ship.
I was surprised that none of the other Brits on SS had taken the name and always use it when starting a new career.

I just hit the Random Name button and keep hitting it until I see a name that strikes my fancy at the moment.
But if I'm creating a "test" career just to try out mods or a new install, lately I've been typing in Rufus T. Firefly. :O:
I wonder, has anyone ever had the random name generator generate the full name of one of the more famous real life uboat commanders?
So far I've only had that happen with the crew names - got Otto Kretschmer as a bootsmann once. :o

Closest I've had is a Kyle Dönitz as a matrosengefreiter. When starting new careers I just use the random names in commander, though recently I decided to bring Rudolf Strasser out of retirement in 1944 :)

Off topic but... Speaking of the General Belgrano, did you know she used to be the USS Phoenix and was one of the few ships to survive the attack on pearl harbor.

Quite correct and also has the distinction of being the largest Argentinian warship sunk during the Falklands conflict :03:

I originally toyed with the idea of using the name 'Wanklyn' after who is IMHO the most famous British sub captain of them all....Malcolm David Wanklyn VC, DSO and Two Bars.
I just couldn't for some reason or other that escapes me right now :hmmm:
These days I simply let Commander randomise a name for me.

I think from here on my commander should be Johann Mills, as a little homage to the actor John Mills, who has played more sub commanders on film than anyone else!

Currently my favourite is Wilhelm Frederickson...
Distant relative/decendant of Captain "Sweet William" Frederickson of the 60th Rifles, British Army (early 19th Century), of Anglo/German heritage, friend and colleague of Major Richard Sharpe, 95th Rifles. :DL
p.s. used to get names for SH3 from SH Commander, too.

My own full name, always. Doesn't feel right otherwise, even though I'm definitely not German. Samuel is ok though I can't find a translation/alternate German version of my last name which is Irish in origin.

Radulf Hrodwulf.
Meaning: Wise wolf, famous wolf.
I wanted a wolf name to coincide with the idea of the "Grey Wolves of the Atlantic"

I let SH3Commander generate the names for me these days.
I've almost always used the randomised names from SH3Cmdr. I have toyed with using Zähler von Nieten recently though. :D

I used to make up names to use in alphabetical order. My first were Bruno Asche and Joseph Abernathy. That dates all the way back to my AOD and SH1 days.
These days it's randomized, but I still run through names until I get one that starts with 'A' or whatever letter I'm on at the moment. I run several careers concurrently, so that helps me know who's who.

I used to add a "von" to my own name , but having recently rediscovered SH3, I just let SH3 commander pick one now.

I just let Commander give me choices, and I select ones that appeal to me. In a sense I suppose I roleplay as well as subsim, so it doesn't matter to me all that much about their names (just as long as it isn't Bernard, that is!)
