Does anybody know if currents are modeled in SH5? I think those things played an important role in u-boat warfare, specially for navigation while underwater..., would be great to slip trough the narrows at gibraltar riding de currents (http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/let+slip+through+fingers)

Would be nice but i don't think so :wah:

Thats an interesting thought, and one I've pondered on a bit. Yes navigation at sea is indeed affected by them even for surface ships. But no I don't imagine currents are in the sim, but boy if they could be that would certainly be welcome. And I'd also think that if they were, there'd have to be a map function to indicate them. Otherwise there'd be no way to compensate for their effects.
It has always seemed to me that currents could affect torpedos as well, and man wouldnt that make attacks interesting eh?
But yes on getting through Gibraltar there is IRL two currents according to what is said in Das Boot as the captain was explaining how his plan was to work.
One current on the surface going into the Med, and the other much deeper going out to the Atlantic. His plan of course was to use the surface current, now if only he had dove 10min. earlier they may well have made it through.
But thats the thing about war, many a plan has gone south over one tiny miscalculation.

Im not sure that currents should have fixed speed value, and thats exactly whats interesting about them, you should always have some uncertainty as to how much the currents are affecting your navigation

Unfortunately no, real water physics are not implemented in SH5 ... in fact in none of the series.
