While returning from an uneventful partol (only a couple of smaller merchants, bad luck I guess... January 1940.), I decided, seeing as I have a good bunch of eels left, I'd stop at some small port and fire a few off. It just so happened, that Lerwick was near my route. Slim pickings, S and T-class subs, an ASW trawler, V/W class and a coastal tanker. Fired off some eels and started to back away. One hit. No reaction. Ship sunk. Two hits. Same as before. All four torpedoes made their mark and all four were deadly. They kept getting hit, one after another, and I didn't get one reaction from any of those ships, even though it all happened in broad daylight. A C/D-class destroyer happened to pass by the port. I was about to soil my pants - shallow waters in broad daylight, nowhere to dive and nowhere to run. Alas, he did not react to my presence or the carnage I've wrought. I surfaced. No reaction, as if I were invisible. Fired off my deck gun, hit his smokestack - same as before, no reaction. Got out of the port ON THE SURFACE, right under the nose of another DD, which, of course, did not react to my presence at all.
A weird bug. Very weird, but then again, happy times, right? Did anyone else experience this sort of thing? Or was I blessed with the power of invisibility by Neptune himself? Or maybe, just maybe... the royal navy got a whole lot of clones of Bernard?
