I congratulate on a holiday of the Finnish friends! I wish that we quarrelled only because of beer and beautiful women!!!
Wow how did I miss this thread?
Happy (belated) Veterans day Finland. May all your veterans live long and happy lives in peace.
You're never too late. They're in our hearts and minds all the time. Atleast here where I live. :salute:
Sadly, every year there's fewer and fewer veterans. That's what the song me & happy times posted is about, Veteran's evening call. I think I only need to quote few of the lines of it;
Caress it [Finland], soon gone are brothers,
Remember, the price they paid,
Tell this song to your children,
Memory, it must never fade.
In all devil's politicians are guilty, they and now try to destroy relations between the people. Me always warmly and friendly concerned in Finland and Finns also treat kindly in Russia.
P.S. The father of my father (my grandfather) has been wounded by the Finnish bayonet at Viipuri. It is war and another could not be.

I dont see a reason to quarrel about anything, we should treat each other fairly and things would go smoothly.:D
You can have our beer if we can have your women, sound fair?

Wasn't that why Troy and besieged for a decade and burned to the ground? :hmmm:
Back OT, I watched this documentary on the Winter War a while back and really enjoyed it. Here is the Youtube link:

It should be informative for those here in the states that don't know about this conflict.
Monuments to Winter war. Near to my country house. Local residents look after tombs and monuments to the Soviet, Finnish and Swedish wars to victims in Winter war and in the Great Patriotic War.

Anyone havent come and get them back?
The KIA/MIA recovery teams have brought back hundreds already, its not a Finnish custom to leave them there.
Every older church has its own section of the graveyard dedicated to the so called Heroes graves.
They are all nicely decorated and popular destination for sightseers.
School children, students and conscripts help out in the upkeep and light candles on Independence Day.
Theres some 100.000 men buried in these sites, closer to 99% of the fallen in our wars.
Its a promise that soldiers get here, even if you get killed you will be brought back to home.
It was no easy task to organize during war.
First their comrades had to get them behind lines, then military chaplains did the paperworks and volunteer women washed and prepared the bodies to be shipped home.
