I have come to realize that SH5 is a complete pos out of the box.......sure does look pretty though. I have a few hours on SH4 and find that doing what you need to do is much simpler in SH4. Can someone point me in the direction of either some mods or information on key controls for Sh5 to improve the gameplay? For instance i cannot steer the ship without setting way points.....this cant be right, i just cant seem to find the right keys.

just curious, In your own opinion, what are the best, or top 3 mods out of all of them that make silent hunter more badass? You'll need JSGME (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1309434&postcount=2) to install these.

UI Mods - pretty much essential.

TheDarkWraith's MultiUI with minimal Dials TDC (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166093) - This will entirely change the game for you. A full UI conversion which adds much missing functionality and a lot of entirely new features. Includes compass, rudder, teleporting, chalkboard, map features, pretty much everything.

Church's SH5 Keys keymapping (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163444) - this restores SH3's keymappings people might be more familiar with and restores a lot of missing keymaps (some of which are fixed in today's patch).

Gameplay mods

Better and Realistic Floating (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164953) and it's sister mod Damage Assessment (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=165771) - these mods improve damage to targets meaning they'll sink by flooding, slow down when hit and other nice features that are missing in stock.

There's other gameplay mods I use too, but many are being fixed with the fabled 1.2 patch in mid-May (things like morale and command type mods.)

Graphics mods

Pretty much everything from Ailantd! (http://www.shmods.ailantd.com/) - AilRain, AilWhiteInterior (paired with sober's cream flooring (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=165759)) and AilClouds are the ones I use, but all his mods are beautiful!
HanSolo's Enhanced Funnel Smoke (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166121) - this makes a huge difference. Engine type specific funnel smoke mod, really nice.
1000m bearing overlay (http://www.ordre-des-neos-templier.fr/SH5MODS/gisement.rar) - this is a overlay with a compass around your sub while you're zoomed in.
Mighty Fine Crew (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163591) - a sound and animation mod which fixes a lot of crew animations and brings in things like the crew climbing the ladders when you dive/surface, bearded men and other nice changes.

and the most important mod of all:

Reboot's Hot Soup (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166182) - this adds steam to the soup pot in the galley. :)

There's of course more mods available and desirable, but looking over what I have installed, these are the ones I consider most important.
