View Full Version : ANZAC Day 2010
Today marks the 95th Anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli in 1915.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

Anzac Day services in Los Angeles National Cemetery. There are 86000 heroes at rest, but there is only one among them that is Australian.

Even the one, so far from home.*

:salute: To both the ANZAC and other Imperial forces and Ottoman troops.
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk at the 1934 Gallipoli commemoration:
Heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives! You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

They shall not grow old,
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,

At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.
From the poem by Laurence Binyon
"Those heroes that shed their blood
and lost their lives;
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side
here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers,

"The Johnnies and the Mehmets, although enemies in life are brothers in death."
