Ubisoft DRM Cracked? (http://www.bluesnews.com/s/109569/ubisoft-drm-cracked)

Ubisoft's "always on" DRM has been defeated, according to a report on CNET (http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-20003120-248.html), where they say a playable cracked version of Assassin's Creed II is now in the wild. All new Ubisoft PC games, including AC2, include internet-based validation that has caused problems (http://www.bluesnews.com/s/108146/ubisoft_s-drm-failure) playing games, but has been described by (http://www.bluesnews.com/s/109404/ubisoft-drm-vital-to-pc-success) the publisher as "vital" to its business. It seems a little unusual for a mainstream site like CNET to post updates on pirated software, though Ubisoft's public denial (http://www.bluesnews.com/s/108021/ubisoft-drm-not-cracked) of the previous report that their DRM was cracked has arguably set a precedent for this as a news topic. Thanks Joao.

Whats the problem? He posted a story from a reputable web site.... He didnt post anything about him stealing or showing others how to steal.

Totally relevant regarding SH5 and DRM.....

Maybe the title could have been put differently "Story on Piracy and Ubisoft" or something like that.

Well, cat seems be out of the bag, so to speak...after all, that was published on CNET website.

Way to go, Ubi...probably year of work that could have been used to improve games down to drain in few days.

I have to agree - The OP did not give any details as to what the crack is, where to get it. He posted about a valid story. In the end of the day we all know that it's been cracked anyway, so I don't see that post as a problem.

If he'd have said where to get it from or the cracks name then I'd see a problem, but as it is I think its perfectly valid.

Yeah, not the right place to discuss this thingy.

But nice to be informed though...

So here we are again, legit costumers annoyed by DRM restriction whereas pirates can play the game how they want to.

Ubisoft : time to face it, your DRM failed, so throw it away now, so we can all fully enjoy our game like pirates does.

I don't particularly like to continue posting about the DRM stuff. But I do agree with you, once it's been cracked, it does render the DRM somewhat superfluous. I think perhaps they should do the right thing by the loyal community and remove it now.

Just to be on the safe side, here's a reminder that Subsim does not allow discussion of stealing games (or borrowing, sampling, however one wishes to rationalize it).

This also means don't discuss cracks, on legal games or not, because there's no way to determine who is using a crack on a legal game or a pirated game. And please, for the love of god, don't jump up and announce to the world you are angry about the DRM and you plan to pirated SH5. This equals ban here.

This is spelled out in the user agreement to everyone when they join the forum and the rules are clear. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/faq.php?faq=susbim_faq_item#faq_rules2_faq_item)

No one cares what you do in your home, or how you measure yourself ethically, but no, you cannot discuss it here.

thanks,
Neal
