I am trying to overhaul a target but my watch crew keeps telling me that they have spotted a ship and knocking the TC down. It is making me crazy and I will hear "schiff gesichtet" in my sleep! I though t there was a setting in SH3Cmndr to change this but that is for max TC. Can this be changed or do I just need to pull out of visual range .

I usually tack back and forth a few times to make sure he's still there and get a good course. Then, I pull outside visual range, go to flank speed, and overtake him. Once I'm pretty far ahead, I intercept his course at 90 degrees, submerge, and wait.

there's a "no continuous ship-spotted" for GWX-mod in the download-section.
don't know if it helps .....:hmmm:
(pls tell me after you've installed cause it really is annoying)

I never knew this existed. I gotta check that out too.
My Watch Officer is kept pretty quiet, but that depends on the weather. In high visibility, I believe the visual range is 8000 meters. So I stay 7000 meters away while overtaking. That gives a full 1000m of leeway before the target starts flirting with visual boundaries, but keeps him in the Watch's eye so I can quickly get rough distances and bearing on command.
But if weather isn't clear, then I don't have a good solution to this, as I don't know the exact visual range of bad weather lookouts.
EDIT: I almost forgot about SH3 Commander. If you use that, you can set the TC to whatever you want when ships are spotted. But that can be dangerous so you're more likely to benefit from the mod KL-alfman suggested.

You could use SH3 commander to designate the maximum TC for when you spot a ship.
An ingame work around would be to remove all but one crew member from the bridge. That sometimes helps getting out of harbours.
But it is annoying. :yep:

Usually I just send the WO to his quarters, since his absence from the bridge means that no schiffs get reported as gesichtet at all. However I do this only when traversing the harbor to and from home port and only if I'm going to keep a sharp lookout myself from the bridge and/or navmap view.
Anywhere else on the map, I'd rather have the same ship reported to me half a dozen times than one ship that might be a threat not reported at all.
I have not yet tried the "no continuous ship spotted" mod but will be loading it up for my next patrol.

I tried sending the WO to quarters, didnt change anything. They all report the same ship spotted every two minutes. I love it when they are all screaming about a ship and the WO's response to a request for range and bearing is" no visual contact":o

These are my settings using SH3 Commander:

I've recently noticed that both the enemy plane and ship settings automatically default to the x8 when hunting setting.
This might just be coincedance but try upping the when hunting setting and see if that helps matters.

Jim, you have your settings continually doubling as you go up the list. 1024 when game paused? Interesting.
I have hunted and hunting both set for 32x, Near Land set at 128x, and Critical Damage, Low Efficiency, planes, ships and radio reports all set to 1.
As I said, with that mod I have experienced no problems at all, and every ship is spotted once, and once only.
This mod has worked quite well for me.

This mod has helped me too though it doesn't eliminate the issue, in fact its not supposed to do so. One has to mess with the sensors to find a solution for this issue though i'm not sure if it can be done without breaking everything else.:06:

jimbuna... what's with those settings?
If I remember, 3dview also controls the max compression where crew fatigue is calculated. And SH3 Commander also adds a random thermal layer to the oceans. Only thing that is a bother is having to completely exiting out of the game, after every patrol. With GWX restarting the game takes about 7 minutes.

No Steve....none of the options were highlighted there, hence the figures.
When highlighting game paused the figure is '0'
Going to the when hunting settings shows x8 and that is what the other two default to (from 8 and 8 respectively).
Might just be coincidental but could be worth a try.

Fatigue is switched off after any tc in excess of x32.
Your quite correct, SH3 Commander does add a random thermal layer.
Why are you restarting the game after each patrol?...I don't understand :hmmm:

Actually I think it was my tardy effort of transmitting the detail in something slightly better than gibberish that was the cause of the confusion
