Anyone watching/seen this?
Is it worth a look? Or is it just a unrealistic, ineffective show?
There are some mouthwatering matchups, for instance the SS against the Viet Cong. Yakuza vs Mafia, Viking vs Samurai.
Although the matchup between a Ninja and a Spartan makes me think this might be just a tad "unbelievable", ie. crap.
Is it presented in the style of Mythbusters?

I've seen it, it seems a bit meh though, they apparently give numbers to various weapons and stuff then run it through a simulator which compares these numbers and assigns a probability of each side winning then they "Flip the coin" 1000 times then use CGI to simulate a battle.
Its okay I guess but I wouldn't put much stock in it.
I mean Megas Alexandros vs Atilla the Hun? Are they doing a 1v1 fight because that's utterly stupid.

It's been aired in the UK before....take it all with a pinch of salt....mostly hypothetical.
Sounds to me like the show "Prehistoric fight club" they aired here year or so ago. What a BS show, putting different dinosaurs against each other. :haha: Umm.. hello, how do you know how a dinosaur would act in that situation? :DL

I've watched a few episodes now. Basically they take two warriors that would have never met on the battlefield, evaluate their weapons and then pit them against each other 1 vs 1 or 5 vs 5 in a computer simulation. I'd say at least watch a couple for yourself and then decide if you like it or not, if for no other reason than to look at all the pretty weapons. :D

Well, it could be an amusing diversion. It doesn't have to be realistic to be entertaining. Like sinking the Yamato, Musashi, and Akagi all at once and getting away.

Oh god, my favorite part of that show was how much the various experts they had would get into it. And how they'd always refer to stuff in the present tense, like they were commentating on a race or something.

It's worth a look :yep: Even if to see the various combat methods\weapons.

Actually most of the eps listed by the OP were from last season's airing. They're currently being rerun (at least here) as, IIRC, a "promo" to the second season's worth of new episodes.
I watched the first season until it started to turn into stuff with cannons and machine guns every week. The demonstrations of all the personal weaponry and fighting styles was interesting, but I found the constant "bragging rights" angle pretty eyeroll-worthy.
Overall I'd rank it somewhere between History Channel's "Warriors" series (:yeah:) and "Battles B.C" (somebody watched "300" one too many times).

So who won with the SS and the Viet Cong matchup?
Just curious.

I've seen William Wallace vs Shaka Zulu and Maori warrior vs Shaolin Priest.
While the exotic weaponry is very interesting, especially the way they extensively demo them, the matchups tend to ignore tactics and strategy that maximize (or would counter) their effectiveness.

Shame that, the premise behind this show seems really good.
End result: Not "complete" demonstration of the matchup, which equals not much point in doing this at all really.

Well the coverage of the various weapons is reason alone to watch it imo. The Maoris shark tooth paddle thing for example. That is one mean man killer!

John McClane vs. The Death Star (http://www.grudge-match.com/History/mcclane-deathstar.shtml)!
The admiral has hastily directed his men to apprehend the vigilante wreaking havoc upon his brand new battlestation. "We must capture this renegade before he causes any more trouble on the Death Star. Our first target, Earth, will be in range in 24 hours. He must be stopped by then. If we fail, the Emperor will come here and punish us personally."
Behind them they hear a set of blast doors open. The admiral and his legion of storm troopers turn and see a horrifying sight. There sits Darth Vader, slumped over dead in a chair. He is wearing a Santa hat, and something is written in blood on Darth Vader's black cape. As they unfurl it, the admiral reads the message:
"Ho Ho Ho. Now I have a light saber!"
