I seem to remember a few weeks ago reading about someone who had an issue where the explosions would not be dynamic at all, they would just appear to freeze as the game continues to function normally around them. Alas, I can not find this thread and now that I have SHV, I find that I am having the same problem.

THe game runs very smoothly, even on high graphical settings, but when I blow something up, or fire the deck gun, the flash is delayed and the explosion appears to freeze, while the game continues uniterupted with the yellow fireball still in the same positino of the ship, long after the ship has sunk. I have the same problem with the deck wash. it washes up on my deck, and freezes. Doesn't wash off.

Totally unmodded as of now,

System Specs:

Pentium 4 - 3.4ghz
Nvidia GT 240 1gb
3gb DDR2
Windows XP Pro

It's because you have a single core processor, patch 2 meant to address it ( if it ever arrives) , try this as a workaround , start game , alt tab, open task manager and right cluck sh5.exe in processes, change priority to high.
Creates some mouse lag for me but fixes explosions.

Hmmmm... Didn't work for me. Oh well, I'll just wait for the patch :(
