I thought I better check with the community before I invest in SH5.

Is it true that you MUST have a constant internet connection?

I've been waiting a while for SH5 but if this is true then I cannot buy it as I simply cannot have a constant internet where I am. Maybe UBI changed their stance on this? Hope so...

"A permanent internet connection is required to play the game".
Quote taken from front of the box.

then in small print on the back of the box :-
"A permanent high speed internet connection and creation of a Ubisoft account is required to play this video game at all times and to unlock exclusive content...... blah.... blah.... blah."

So guess that means you need a constant internet connection.:yep:

A permanent high speed internet connection [...]It works with a low speed internet connection as well, just turn synch off.

I think when most people say 'high speed' they mean anything but 56k modem. You saying it works with dial-up?

sure, it takes like 10 secs to log in to UBI, but after that it plays just like an offline game, no other problems whatsoever.

Yeah, unfortunately 14 Kbps is about three times the speed of dial-up... dang, I thought maybe you found a trick there for a sec.

Yeah, unfortunately 14 Kbps is about three times the speed of dial-up... dang, I thought maybe you found a trick there for a sec.well it should still be possible, in-game bandwith usage is pretty much 0 (1MB / hour) so only logging in would take a little while, probably about 30 secs for you if it's really 3x slower than my connection.

If we could play SH5 on dial-up, believe me it would be known by now. That's one major reason people are complaining about the DRM. Stop teasing me man! :haha:

Here's the official Minimum System Requirements:
Internet Connection: 256 kbps Broadband connection (512 kbps connection or better recommended)

Yep. They announced awhile before it was released. Some of us have been complaining long and loud ever since.

Internet Connection: 256 kbps Broadband connection (512 kbps connection or better recommended)yeah that's the system requirements with online synching ON. If you switch it off however, it barely uses (or requires) any bandwidth.

I know I can play it with 14kb/s, and I know 14kb/s is about 18 times slower than 256kb/s.
I'm not teasing you in any way, just giving a fair estimate on minimum internet requirements:)

Could you elaborate? Never heard of a synch option.

Your save games are syncronised to Ubisofts on-line server at the beginning and at the end of every log on/off. This can take time and bandwidth especially if you have my record 750 saves!!! Seriously, it can be annoying because you are not in control of your own data, although if you like saving before an attack etc like I do, it does save your hard drive space

Ahhh, ok. Have that turned off. My saves get backed up to a server as soon as there is a change to the fles. :yeah:

I can hardly imagine how someone can afford computers specs required for SH5 (if not stolen) and in the same time being only able to afford a dial-up connection in 2010.

btw, I'm not insinuating you're a thief.

Are there places in the United States where the only option for internet is dial up and satellite?

Not everyone can afford, or wants satellite.

Yes there are places like that, but if you're there you have more important things to worry about than if your damn game works or if Hanna Montana updated her twitter page.

Games now days are made for city folk only , with their fancy electricity that is always on and their dandy Internet that works all the time.

Probably he were looking through the periscope with other eye so thats why he didn't notice the little letters. Give him a break no one beside UBI understands why this single player game needs a permanent internet connection :03:
