Hello there. Im new to this forum but not the SH series nor mods that have been released for previous versions however, in SH 5 I have dl numerous mods and installed them using the JSGME utility when appropriate. Anyway, I've only seen a few of those mods in realtime meaning in my current saved camapign game work such as the unlimited zoom mods but other than that the other mods don't show up? Now maybe Im not reading into this correctly but do u need to start a new game from scratch in the games campaign to see them in the game or did I do something wrong with installing them?

You don't need to start a new campaign (though you will when the patch comes out)

You just need to make sure that you are in port when you activate the mods. If not then it can make them unstable.

So I must be docked at a port or in the sub pen? and then Alt-Tab out of SH5 to activate them via JSGME then they will show up in-game after I start a new patrol or current mission? Just getting this strait...

Almost - you need to be out of game completely.

So go to the port , shut the game down completely and install mods.

Make sure your mod doesnt have a double folder name .
Example Sobers better crew SH5/Sobers better crew SH5/Data/etc etc

OK, I will try this. Thanks. Also, about the double folders comment in the below post I found this issue while installing the mods but thanks for pointing it out.

I still can't get these mods to work. Of course I have a up-to-date version of SH 5 and I start the exe and jsgme as a Admin now (I have Win 7). But I understand you have to start a new campaign now (not just go to port like before and close the game down) with the new patches installed? I have numerous mods activated in jsgme and all with the correct folder structures... but 99% of them are still not showing up in my game. Why is this so tricky from the past games in the series? DRM?

I have v 1.1.5 of SH 5. OK, I disabled all the mods/reinstalled some of them through jsgme, started a new campaign, and then saved/shut down the game and now when I click on continue or a saved game it crashes to the desk top... must be one of the mods I have installed or uninstalled that messed up the game? So I disabled all of them and I can't even make it to the main menu without crashing. I then reinstalled a few of them I had before like New UI and SHEnvModGold and it starts now but crashes, again, when I load a save or try to continue?

gijas04,
I have v 1.1.5 of SH 5
First of all matey; you need to be patched to 1.2, here is a download link or use the update utility in the SH5 Support file.

http://www.freshwap.net/35e/dl/sh5+patch+1.2+skidrow

it crashes to the desk top
Secondly; this is an extract from the official SH5 forums about crashes;

Uninstall all "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable" packages from your computer and install only the one that comes with the Silent Hunter 5 kit.

Remove all the mods that you have installed.

Have an up-to-date Windows installation. Microsoft regularly releases patches for security problems. Having these installed may often remove the need for either an anti-virus or a firewall so that you may... (check next point)

Turn off any and all software running in the background. This includes, but is not limited to (as many programs hide themselves from the user): anti-virus, firewall, messengers, anything that could steal focus from the full-screen game through a pop-up window of any kind...

Before turning off your anti-virus, update the virus definition list and do a full system scan. Running the game executable with the anti-virus off and while having no other programs running should pose no risks to your system.

Before turning off the firewall, make sure your Windows installation is up to date and that no other programs are running. Windows operating systems are known to leave backdoors open and have major security holes that have been exploited by so called "computer worms". These are self-propagating viruses that will attach to a vulnerable system no matter what the user is doing at the time of infection. Having a firewall diminishes this risk but it does not eliminate it as was the case of Windows XP worms. And if you are reluctant to turn off your firewall because you suspect someone might be targeting you and trying to hack into your computer, seek specialized tech support and notify your ISP and the authorities.

Overheating: Silent Hunter 5 is resource-intensive, it uses the graphics card and the CPU to the fullest and will cause the system to heat up considerably. There are no general guidelines as to how much is too much, you'll have to check the specs of the components in your rig. But as a general guideline, always try to have good cooling solutions (air con turned on, external and internal cooling fans, open up the computer case...).

System specs: if possible, try different hardware configurations. The graphics card can many times be the solution.

Operating system: do a clean reinstall, start the game with the bare-minimum software needed (only what's needed to run it) and try different versions of drivers.

I hope the answer/fix that your seeking is somewhere in this post :06:
