Alright so I've recently installed this gem of a game again. Only problem is I can't get the sound to work. I'm running it in DosBox, and the sound in the intro videos plays alright, but as soon as I go on patrol, the sound goes dead. Any suggestions?
Cheers

I'm using DosBox to run both versions of SH1, the original and SHCE. I installed Defend Reloaded as well as the VDMS? Sound Support (separate software) and I'm not having any issues with the sounds. In fact, I'm actually seeing the opening videos, something I never saw running under Win98.

Yeah the weird thing is I'm getting the opening videos, and they have sound, but as soon as I start a patrol it goes dead.

I did the VDMSound install biz on my older Xp machine and it runs w/o Dosbox great. The problem seems to be W7 related using Defend Reloaded/Dosbox, or the onboard sound. I'm using the digital coax output and have the very same symptom where the audio drops out when you enter the sim world.
The other problem is to prevent video corruption, I have to use windowed mode after resizing and reconfiguring the display to get a larger window. The Dosbox setting for window size gets ignored.
