Please help me, fellow commanders.
Didn't research a new graphics card and wound up with a GeForce 512MB 8400 last year! Needless to say not even SHIV runs well with this. I'm running a low end Dell 546, with a Dual Athlon X2-64, Vista, and 4 Gigs of RAM at 2.7 ghz. I have all the storage that I need, but I'm at a loss for what card I can run without freaking out my folks about current college expenses. Let's just say I'm in the $120 range.
I want to run SH5 at a good resolution and frame rates, but not sure what to run it with (plus a few more other games and stuff). The in-game shots you all have been posting are just unreal and I want some of that.
Thanks.

Very true, but if he really wants it I'm sure he can find a way to make 120, into 150 +shipping. Its not TOO far out of his desired price range.
Honestly though I'm running a 5870 myself and while the game runs smooth I still get a jerky mouse inside the control room for no reason, though I have no difference in performance between max settings and min settings. Not sure what thats all about but the mouse just seems to lag off and on in the control room.

I built my computer from scratch so I had planned ahead for the school bus of a GPU. I'm using a cooler master centriuon case, its very spacious and even at that I would say there is only about 2-3 inches between the 5870 and my hd. Its a monster no doubt.

Good find Oak... though I would caution the original poster that Gigabyte is.. questionable at best. But that price is hard to beat... then again with reason.

@ Drewcifer
I´ve no experience with Gigabyte graphics cards, but using GB mainboards for my custom rigs (currently P35DS3 Rev. 2). You had some bad experience with this brand?
Sir Iam sure as you know ati 5770 1gb is beyond his price range. good day.No, as Im in Europe and know the prices here.
However, I do know that its good value for the price, so if this card didnt fit - the 5750 might

Well I'm not going to make a claim saying gigabyte is junk or anything. But thus far I've had issues with both gigabyte MBs, and GPU's... on multiple occasions lets just say enough that I will not purchase the brand myself. That being said the original poster is looking for a card that will run his game and on a budget and the card you found seems like the perfect match, plus a little shipping.

For a (new) GPU. If you can post an advert for the brand new 5770 for 120 dollars then i shall stand down. In my humble opinion mauser should up to 150 dollars and aim for the smaller 5750 card. Further more if it had not been for the sh5 mention on thread title, i would request this thread be moved to pc hardware forum.

I do know that you CANT directly convert the price in £ to a price in $. It does not work like that. So to get the price for the 5750 or 5770 you must check an actual dealer in the US...

Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
Some of these cards you all have posted look great, but I worry that they either will not fit my machine--size wise--or my power supple, at 300 Watts, won't carry it.
As for me grabbing one in the near future; it's going to be awhile. College is taking priority of my time, and funds; furthermore, a guitar am going to be building for a year.
I will say this, I've been out of the hunt for a while until in my convenient history course we got into The Battle of the Atlantic, and for some reason my thought processes went to German.:arrgh!: When the U.S. Destroyer Rueben James came to light and how my instructor said she was cut in half, I immediately informed the class about performing a keel-splitter and how the principle works:
"And how do know this?" one of my classmates asked me rather mockingly.
Oh, how I wished I had my log-books from sub-commander. But then again, I really don't want my class to see the cruise-liner I did that to.
"I just do."
So, all you commanders on SH5, can you really walk through the whole boat? What are the conversations like with the crew? Do you issue orders directly to them, or is it the same interface as III and IV?
Thanks everyone.

good to see your posts again 4Para :salute: Sir Feuer Frei thank you, i read your kind post, and am sensible to this obliging part (mention) you give in said debate. chuffed to see an old name :salute: It appears some said members are advancing and making every apperance to confuse and attack my post. :timeout: i must now observe the truth to the matter, post 1 member requires card for $120 dollars, Post 2 member states he has 5770 which is more expensive card, did he read post 1 correctly? or flouting a 5770 card in his face?? seeing it could not answer any purpose lol :smug: perhaps an improper task. so i shall now push on.

That's going to be a big ro******* ("road block" hehe silly filter), but power supplies are cheap. 300 is way low, especially for modern day cards. Pretty sure my phone has more than 300 watts of power available. ;)
