Ok, so I just now realized these were optional, not default. So I rolled SH3 commander back, and added them in with JSGME. But then after doing so, I realized my game was saved mid-patrol.

After seeing this, I did NOT load my game. Instead I quit to desktop and rolled SH3 commander back once more. Then I disabled the 2 mods.

Would any of these procedures I've done corrupt my gamesave? And more importantly, can I safely enable either of these 2 mods while on patrol? Waiting to dock is no problem at all, but I'm just wondering if it's necessary in the case of these 2 mods.

I think you did right!
disableing the two mods shouldn't corrupt your save-game at all.
but I suggest to activate mods only in base.

Disabling and rolling back everything you did *should* return the game files to the same state they were in before you made any of the changes. I don't think any mods or Commander would do anything to your savegames, which IIRC are in the My Documents folder the game creates for them and not in the game folder.

You won't know until you try but since you undid all your changes before loading anything I think you should be okay.

As noted above, it's always best to make changes only while you're in base. You can also set Commander to rollback any changes it makes automatically every time you exit the game. I recommend this just because it's one less thing you have to remember to do before you make any other changes manually or by enabling mods.

Aye aye

Thank you both. I may just ditch this patrol and RTB, so I can enable these mods ASAP. I'll call it an unsuccessful patrol due to mechanical failure.

I have one more Q for those experienced with Lite Traffic:
Does this mod reduce ships I may encounter overall, or does it only affect port areas? I'm very satisfied with the density of traffic at sea, and I don't want to trade that for smoother departures.

traffic only in harbour will be reduced, as far as I remember.
older rigs had severe troublems with FPS in port with all the enhancements GWX comes with.

Lite Harbor Traffic does just what it sounds like from the name - it will lessen the number of vessels in port when you are leaving and returning. The voyages in and out of harbors seem to be some of the most "intense" parts of the game in terms of the demands it places on your system, and this mod will help reduce that. Another thing that some might consider a benefit is that without all those other vessels around your Watch Officer will not be telling you about them every other second.

I used it for a while and IIRC the only ships I ever saw in port were my own and whatever small surface ship was there to escort me in and out, maybe a couple other patrol boats here and there. But it didn't and shouldn't decrease the number of ships that you encounter when out of base and on patrol and so should not affect your chances of finding targets when you're on the hunt.

Another option to avoid harbor traffic (and making the journey all the way in and out) is to use the "Start patrols at sea" option in Commander, which I think you'll find near the top of the list in Career Options. This modification will "move" the point on the map that the game considers your "base" from the spot where it is on the shore to somewhere farther out to sea. You may still see some local traffic around the area if you're not using the Lite Harbor Traffic mod, but probably not as much and whatever there is you'll be that much closer to getting clear of it.

Awesome, thanks alfman.

That's ideal for me then, since I can't go over 64 TC in port or my sub will skip across the navmap screen. Open seas are perfect as-is though, and I can hit 1024 TC smoothly.

@Frau Kaelun
Excellent point about the WO spam, I didn't think about that at first but yea he does get annoying. Good riddance :salute:

Yeah he sure does. A lot of the time I use the Start Patrols At Sea thing, but sometimes I like to see the harbor if I haven't been there in a while. And I don't use LHT because if I'm gonna go through the harbor, I want it to look like a busy port and my system can take it so it's no biggie in that respect. But when I do that, sometimes I'll send my WO below to his quarters just so I don't have to listen to him going on and on about every ship he sees.

IF YOU DO THAT THOUGH make sure you stay on a VERY low TC and either stay on the bridge yourself and keep your eyes peeled in all directions or watch your progress in the Nav Map view and don't get distracted because if another ship comes into the mix you will not have the luxury of your WO making you aware of it. That plus a high TC plus not paying close enough attention can get real ugly real fast.
