I have started a Campaign mode, sank my first ships and docked at Kiel. Was given command of a new boat, but how do I get on it? I am standing on the sub pen dock with no concievable way to get back on board the boat. Any ideas?

Talk to the older gentleman in the pretty uniform, sir.
He'll help you back on board.
Good hunting.

Well, I tried doing that. He walked away and is no where to be seen. Tha old captain is still there, standing mute like a wooden cigar indian.

That's no good.
Try talking to everyone on the walkway next to your sub. You should only be able to talk to two of them standing near each other (The Mechanic and the Admiral Guy). If no one talks to you than you're looking at some glitch that I never encountered, but maybe someone else can help you. Sorry, man. Good luck.

talk to the admiral and choose your mission. then you must speak with him again and tell him you are ready to start the patrol

It must be a glitch as the Captain was talking to nobody when I first arrived back. On restarting the game, it turns out he was talking to the fellow who gave me a promotion. I have noticed that there is a dialod icon over the heads of some crew, but clicking on them does nothing. Another glitch? Am I suppoesed to be able to talk to them?
Thanks for your help, Westbroek!

Thanks for your help, Westbroek!Yes you should be able to communicate, may i be so blunt as to ask, did your pc meet and pass (all) the game requirements? :hmmm: Also make sure all torpedos are selected. good day.

No problem
Ideally, you can talk to an admiral who's standing on the dock near the stern of your sub. You can select an option to receive new orders, and then select another option to begin the new patrol, at which point you automatically get zoomed to your bridge.
Haven't asked yet, but are you running the game unmodded? Unmodded SH5 is a festival of confusing bugs.

Unmodded, yes. Which mods would you suggest?
As for the PC specs, I am running an athlon quad with 6 gigs of ddr3 memory, but the game seems to only recognize 1.5 gigs. Win 7 system.
Move closer to the guy with the officers uniform and click on him, not the bubble.

Which mods?
I yield to a quote I'm taking from Sober in another thread.
He says:
"These are the bare minimum mods you need to play SH5 .
MightyFine Crew Mod 1.2.1 Alt w beards
MCCD_1.03_MFCM_1.2.1_compatible
MoraleMod
Sobers better crew SH5
OldStyleSHControls_1_3_0_ByTheDarkWraith
No Damn Bubbles, No Damn Halo Mod
AilRain 1.0
AilClouds 3.0
ImprovedWaves_Improved Pitch&Roll
Sobers realistic wave speeds ."
-end quote
I agree with him. It's a good idea to pick these up, they'll really transform your experience.

Cool! Is there a specific order in which the mods need to be installed?

I think you'll be fine. JSGME will notify you if any of those conflict.
Do them in that order and you shouldn't have any game break problems.
