What's your favorite place to hunt?
I found a new one that has worked great for the last 5 patrols, always running into large convoys and TF. The turkey shoot was in Oct. of 43, but has been good since July. It's the shipping lane between Truk and home waters, but the spot to sit is 200nms east of Saipan. Many flash messages for this area.
After attacking two convoys, out of the blue came a lone Shokaku carrier, no escorts..I thought strange, but I was attacked by carrier planes at dusk. It was going fast, about 22, but I got it. Then a lil later here comes a lone CA, later another one...I only had one torp left. On the way home I ran into a nice light cruiser force and got one with last torp.
Best spot ever using TMO RSRD. 17 merchants, two warships sunk.

Acording to the map, don't you mean east of Saipan?

It depends if your heading North or South :har:

Got even better in Dec. About 100nms nnw of Truk another 16 ship large convoy. Got three flash messages, but only found another small one. Just got a message of large IGN units.
I usually stay in the Palau shipping lanes, but these are much better. I seldom see the large passenger ships with RSRD, something I miss, but have sunk several here.

Thanks for the correction, I did mean East...I'll fix that. Coming from Truk, east doe's make more sense.

we need something comparable to Operation Spinnenetz for SHIV, that would be so cool. realistic patrol reporting, have convoys tracked, etc.

No problem. ;)
That's why I can look at my heading, hear the sonar at my bearing and visualize where and what is going on.
Anyways, I'll try that out when I reach 1943.

Do, it's worth it. Jan of 44 has been good. More large convoys and the Yamato came by with 3 escorts. Sunk him, out of Torps and a large TF came by, 4 BB's plus. Why doing an end around on it a large convoy popped up . They passed each other by 30nms... Wish I had torps.

It's a mod called "Nav Map Make Over" or something like that. I use it too.

I usually do good in the area just south of Formosa just outside the minefields from 43 on. Tavel along the shipping lane. Lots of DDs and convoys. Sank 5 large troopships in one mission, a carrier, and a bunch of DDs. The big 18,000 ton troopships don't last long if you hit them by the forward mast, and one in the area of the engine room right behind the stacks. Also, try to get them as close to the waterline as possible. Unless it's after the time the torpedoes were fixed from their running too deep, then a keel shot with magnetic detonator will work in the same areas, but I hate chancing it. I prefer side hull shots. Also, if the ship doesn't sink, it usually becomes disabled and floats dead in the water. I wait until the destryers are gone usually after 5 or 6 hours, them surface to the opposite side from which the ship is listing, and finish it off with the deck gun. The deck crew on the other ship can't depress the gun enough if you are 1000 yards off from them, so even if they fire the gun, they won't hit you.
