(I'll post some kit photos later):D
This is my new project: http://www.building-model-boats.com/pt-boat-model.html
I got the Lindberg pt boat with the intentions to convert to RC. I'm not going to build the 109, but I want to change it to the roll off torps, which may require custom making them:hmmm: (mark 13). I've I buy a controller 3 three channels, I'm thinking about making one of the torps be a working one:o:hmmm:. I'll be over my head on that one, and it will take some serious designing/engineering.

...more to come.

Here's the pix:

The Lindbergh kit has some serious problems. You'll want to get some scale blueprints to straighten out all the mistakes.

Years ago a guy took one, fixed it, opened it up to show the interior he'd built and won some awards.

I couldn't find any pictures, but it was a long time ago (late 1970s)

It was on sale. It looks like a good practice boat. Work my way up to something tougher.

And what do you mean by problems? Accuracy problems or quality/design problems?

I looked at the 1/35 italeri kit(to measure the torps;)), and what a detailed kit! But, that kit is around $150 and isn't designed to be rc or have a motor in it.

I want to get one of thosee 1/35 Schnellboots, covert it to RC and have at on the lake. :D

I'm probably going to get the crew:
http://www.italeri.com/VisualizzaProdotto.aspx?PROD=00826

These guys look waaaaay better than the guys that come with the model.:shifty:

You are correct! This isn't the greatest model I've built. but it is intended to be a father/son project and see a lot of time in the water, so I wouldn't be playing with a really fancy kit. (not for a first one anyway). If I were to really build the 109, this thing isn't even remotely accurate, but I'm not building the 109. I found some rocket cones that meet the measurement to make some mk 13 torps, now I just need to decide how bad I really want to make them. I figure it would cost around $15 bucks a torp to build.:hmmm:

Then there's the crew that came with the kit:o:nope:. These are absolutely awful. Maybe they'll look better after they are painted.

I took some pictures, I just need to upload them.

I did a RC 109 a while back....well....way back. It is a fun kit. Accuracy for me counts on models you will display. If it is to be a RC then keeping it water tight is more of a concern to me! Have fun with it.

I ordered the 1/35 italeri pt boat crew. They are waaaaaaaaay better than the stock crew:D. Can't wait to build them.

those 1/35 crew members may look too small for a 1/32 pt.

you may want to add spray rails to your boat.the lindburg kit does not have them.:damn: my two lindburg's take in alittle water each time so i'm adding spray rails to mine.find 1/8 wood strips at your local hobby shop.

I've been working on this hard lately. I'm building custom rudders and I may convert it to a later war pt boat, with roll-off torps.

Pix to come.

How tempting, after working on a real PT boat and spending countless hours, is it to turn this little model into a real thing? I know you've thought about it :D

nikimcbee

Semi-current status. I'm changing some things on the boat. I've torn off the torp tubes and I'm converting it to roll-off torps and I'm building a scratch 40mm bofor and scratch built mark 13 torps:o

I plan on it becoming PT-323:salute:, in honor of one of our vets.

You need outrunner motors on that PT and really make her fly! She looks great!

At the moment, anything doing with speed controllers and motors is a sore subject.:dead:

LOL. Most R/C shops can hook you up with the proper controller, motors and lipo battery. :DL

What motor are you using?
And also I wouldn't recommend the plastic propellers because they tend to bend at high RPMs

The motors are 550s and these props are pretty tough.

Building the torpedo racks from scratch. A friend cast the main part from another pt-boat model, I made the rest.

http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg718/scaled.php?server=718&filename=misc007.jpg&res=medium

The torps are all my idea. I sawed the tips off the plastic one that came with the model, the body of the torps are a dowel. I had fun turning them.

The (almost) final boat.

http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg42/scaled.php?server=42&filename=misc009.jpg&res=medium

I still need to finish my 40 mm gun and paint a "323" on the chart room.
