A few months ago there was a very interesting topic listing all the features that had gradually been cut with each iteration of the SH series. Now that 5 is out out I'd be interested to see it updated for this new version.
Off the top of my head:
No KM grid map
No Type II, IX or XXI (XXI can possibly be excused by the complete lack of the last third of the war.)
1943-1945 (This is staying here until there's concrete information that an expansion will actually be released)
If anybody knows what that old thread was called I'd love to see it again. It was a good (if depressing) read.

Both
Subnets, mines and Land units have files
No roster ones though and mines, subnets crash the ME when you add roster cfgs in
Land units show but you can showboat in front of them and they do nothing

No MTBs for any side and part of one fishing vessel is in the sea folder with most of the files missing

MTBs
You're kidding? They FINALLY manage to get AI units to fire torpedoes and NOW they cut the MTBs? What the hell were they thinking!?
e: I just thought of some more - crew transfers, injuries and deaths.

MISSING! You need to get the game, dude to see what you're NOT missing! As mentioned, some of code is just scrap verbiage, partially eaten, not totally regurgitated (what's for supper anyway?)

My response to you, Ducimus, was not intended to be insulting. If it was interpreted that way, my sincere apologies.

PPPpppppsssshhhhhtttt... If you're an idiot, Ducimus, what do you call TMO? The result of a thousand monkeys pounding away at a keyboard? :D
Back on topic: SH5 (I'm talking stock SH5, not modded) is missing:
A compass
An easy way to call for battle stations (running to one officer and declaring it in a dialog doesn't count, as far as I'm concerned)
"Destroyer on attack run!" - "Depth charges dropped!" (not sure if they were in an earlier version of SH, but I miss 'em regardless)
Asking the sonar guy for the closest target, closest warship, etc.
There's gotta be more...

* no more complete crew management.
* no more full crew.
* no more abilaty to give crew members medals when back from patrol (now you can only give officers a knight cross , and thats it)
* no more captains office.
* no more band playing when leaving/returning to port.
* no more dead crew members (and no more funeral at sea)
* no more crew replacements.
* no more life in the harbours (exepct the u-boat pen)

- a game interface, that gives the feel to play a WWII game and not Star Trek
- thin plotting lines on the map
- many things which according to the Ubisoft Q&A thread should be in the game

Good list. It's really pathetic how Ubi has cut out so many important features from SH5. Too bad they had to dumb down SH5 so much. Sadly, many of the things missing listed in this thread cannot be added or changed by modders. :nope:

Don't forget about Britains lack of Air Power.
The fact that all ships have been bumped down a notch both in power, and rareness in sh5. I know this has to do with the lack of ships in game. instead of ASW trawlers everywhere we now have DD's. Where DD's should be we now have Crusiers. Where the BlackSwans should be we now have Battleships. Where Battleships used to be rare , we now have the everywhere.
meaning:
The lower vessels that were in sh3, tugs, fishing boats, have been replaced with Destroyers. Stock DD's don't do anything or shoot, so yes they are just fast tugs. Oh and Too many sharpshooting frieghters, these also make up for the lack of escorts doing their job right. Ran into a convoy at 36 X T.C. and every ship had 6 Boffers and 2 large deck cannons, one on bow and one on stern. I was shredded before I could even exit T.C. little lone give a crashdive order.
The Middle units, blackswans, and crusiers, which were once in a while in sh3 are more common in sh5, but play the role DD's did in sh3.
The higher units, Battleships and Carriers, which in sh3 were RARE to see, not to mention even more rare to sink are all over the place in sh5. I can't say that in sh3 I even seen a arrier more than once in four years, but have to comlete missions in sh5 of sinking one or two per campaighn ?
The MEGA units, like Hood and Royal Oak, which in sh3 were almost mythical to find and sink, are now common place in sh5 and have been sunk more than once by all of us.
This is the most...:stare:.....part of the game and I try not to think about it while playing or I just shut it off. This and the UNREAL amount of shipping I have to sink.
You must sink 500,000 tons in 30 days, do not pass go, do not collect $200.00 untill then.

I read these lists and I get depressed. The modders have a lot of work to do. I hope they can stick it out to the end.

Not to worry, it's probably the last in the series anyway, so just go back to playing SH3. No reason to get all worked up about content, or lack of content, it's always the same with sequels in any case.

To sum up, they cut off everything that the real fans and honest customers of this series learned to love and appreciate over the years, just to serve a new clientele of customers for whom it is questionable whether they have any interest in this game and will buy it.:damn:
They slammed the loyal customers of Silent Hunter in their faces and show them their backs. They lost alot of reputations and only the future will show of if they find a way back to those who support and feed them over the past years.
Being the last in a series is not that bad if its left in a state the gaming community can work with. I may have misinterpreted things in folks' lists, but it would seem most if not all of the items mentioned could be addressed with mods in time.
For me, the one thing I really don't like is the physical walking required to go to any station on the boat. I don't see that being modded out at all.
As to items I have not found mods for yet:
deck gun - target waterline, superstructure, weapons...
flak gun - fire at will specify range choice
torp salvo spread distance selection
An item I think would be cool for auto-tdc would be to have the ability to drag one of the 1,2,3 points of your projected torp track and have the corresponding locked targets 1,2,3 move the appropriate distance. Would allow for easier long range shots with auto tdc.
I loved SH4 fully modded to the 9's so much and there does seem to be alot that simply cannot be modded into SH5.
Why couldn't they just get SH3 and update the graphics, would have been far better!!:damn:

I don't understand this attitude. My question is "Why should we have to wait for modders to add features?" It seems to me that this view is exactly why they can get away with releasing the game without the features we want. They release it, and it is full of bugs, missing features, too many ships of this kind, etc. They release it, and they know modders will fix it. But it should not work this way. Why shouldn't we expect the company to take the time and effort to release a full, properly working, quality product?

I don't think Ubisoft cares much about the reputation or quality of SH5, because they already knew this would be the final Silent Hunter release. Looks as if they tried to milk as much money out of this release with as little effort and investment as possible.

I don't disagree with your view either. I expected more from the vanilla product than what has been delivered. Alot more. So far I have only 4 products on my computer that were ok as released, although I still run heavily modded. Oblivion and Fallout 3 from Bethesda and Sins of a Solar Empire and Galciv2 from Stardock. Other titles I run modded are Company of Heroes, Battlefield 2, Mount and Blade, Il2 Sturmovik, HL2, Dungeon Siege 1 &2, NWN1&2...and I could go on. I have begun to question in recent years whether a particular games developers honestly play the game they work on or are gamers at all. And this opinion is primarily aimed at titles solely aimed at PC sales because with console support you can understand some direction of a product.
Sh5 at a second glance seems developed with a console mindset when you look at many of the interfaces features. And as such loses what should have been a simulation focus replete with command functionality to manage your crew and feel in command instead of a 1 man Uboat.
