So far I download the Starforce removal, and the 1.4b patch. Now in which order, and what else do I need to do this?
My problem is that when I start the game I get a popup that says:
Protection system
Installation finished. Reboot now to finish installation.
I rebooted and it just says it again when I start game.

AFAIK, the starforce removal tool only removes the drivers once you run it. It does not remove it from the game! Therefore , every time you run the game you re-install starforce. The tool is there to remove the drivers if they cause a problem for your computer cd/dvd drives. There is a detailed explanation of how to run the game without starforce enabled on this forum. So I think to answer your question you need to install the game, install the patch. If Starforce causes you issues , run the removal tool after every time you play.

Ok I followed the steps, and my game starts now! But when the red bar loads, my game crashes to desktop.
GRRRR this is challenging.

Just use the NO DVD patch and you should be fine :).

I just went and bought a fresh copy from Direct2Drive for $10.
No Starforce, no problem.
Also, don't install GameShadow - cancel the installation at that step.

I must admit I gritted my teeth at having to buy the game twice, but never could get my original to work on Vista. So I went to Steam. 10 bucks, no problem, lots of SHIII fun.

No, I got it all to work without DVD. Game starts and is fine, my problem is that the red bar loads, and then the game crashes.

yep could be the problem, if you can check and post the type of card. you may also want to see if the unmodded game will run on its own before patching etc...

It looks like although your card is on the upper end of the series, it probably wont allow you to play graphic heavy 3d games such as SH3, hence the 2d portions of the game are ok once it tries to open "meat" of SH3 it craps out. This is not an expert opinion just based on a quick search for the specs on your card.

Hmm odd... I was able to play SH3 on a computer with a worse card than this, but the other PC was an XP. That explains it probably?

I really dont know. xp should not matter. You could start over and do a reinstall, follow the directions to make sure everything is removed. You may need to look up info on this site for that. try things one at a time. if the game runs without being modded/patched you will be able to isolate the problem. The info on the card that i read says it has good qualities for dvd play back and hdmi output but that its 3d gaming specs were not great. It may be enough to play the game but perhaps not.

What I did was just install the game, should I try reinstalling it, and redoing the 1.4b stuff? I did all of that to run with no DVD. So no starforce and all that.

If you can confirm that the game runs without being modded/patched then you will know that something went wrong a;long the way. You may also save yourself some time and make sure that your card can support the game. I think there is a forum dedicated to intel cards. Do a search for your card and see if you can find one. Might be easier than re-insalling everything
