I put the lat/long of the battle into http://www.ubootwaffe.net/quadrant.cgi but the website conveniently has every grid mapped in the area except the one on looking for.
its the 23rd of march and im patrolling in the strait for the bismarck, but im most likely going to miss it. I want to watch the battle and then afterwords maybe chase down the wales :D
Does anyone know what grid this takes place in?

14.17 on may 23rd, just got a message saying:
U-boats in the vicinity of grid AD52 are encouraged to set a course for SW of that position. Stay on station and assist where possible.

Using several maps, ive determined that the battle took place somewhere in AD578X AD81(1,2,3,5)X. loaded previous save and patrolling for it again.

got 2 contacts by radio report in the area
AD2812 heading S traveling 28 knots at 0240 on the 24th
-suffolk?
-when I went to look to look, i found 2 kent class cruisers
AD5974 heading WNW traveling 21 knots at 1800 on the 23rd
-hood and wales?
-yup its the hood and wales
I bet I could follow the hood and wales (if i can keep up!) and watch them fight it out with the bismarck!

Plotted the battle to be at AD5435 based on the course of the hood and wales, and the time until the historical engagement. Will continue in the morning, I have to get some sleep!

great, you found them!
I just remember the BdU-message when all boats were ordered to help the Bismarck in her death-struggle after the swordfish destroyed the rudders.
if I guess right, the grid was BE56.

I searched for the Bismarck as well, and never found her. The swordfish were out in force, and I couldnt stay on top for long. I did run into the Hood and sank her, but never found ArcRoyal or Rodney either. Is the Bismarck actually in the game? I wanted to see the biggest weapon on the high seas, and see if I could help change naval history.

The Bismarck most certainly is in game. Below you can see her (bottom left) heading for Brest but is about to be intercepted by the BBs King George V and Rodney as well as the Heavy Cruisers Norfolk and Dorsetshire. At upper right you can see The Ark Royal with her escorts in attendance....notice the date and time: 27th May 1941 @07:57

Here she is on a broader scale (for map location purposes) a few hours earlier.

Am getting close to that date in my new career using the WarShipMod Bismarck.
Has anybody else using this mod used Bismarck to engage the 'real' Bismarck's attackers?

Thank you Jimbuna. I will be looking for her. I went too far North, looking for her in the Denmark straits.

Ok, I'm back home, gonna get the game running in a bit and keep updating. Ill try to track the bismarck from its initial engagement until its sinking. itll take a few realtime days.

Is this Bismarck scenario in the stock SH3 or is it only in the Grey Wolves mod?
Thanks.

You know soething...I can't honestly say if it was included in stock or not.
IT IS DEFINITELY IN GWX3.0
If your playing stock, open up the mission editor and interrogate the Campaign_Scr.....run the timeline up to the ones I have and see if it appears.

OK the Bismarck is indeed in the stock SH4. Well I have the Harbour Traffic Mod enabled if that makes any difference?
Here is the screen shot I just took.

In my next game I will try to be there when she shows up :). Or I might even try to intercept the King Geroge and Rodney and take care of them before they can sink the Bismarck :).

i was following the hood when at 0310 it disappeared. I reloaded and did it again, then from an earlier save, and another earlier one. every time, at 0310 on the 24th, the hood and wales disappear. no wonder i couldnt find them at their historical point, they werent in the game!
so this means one can not watch them fight it out...

Hrm... sounds like a "Delete On Last Waypoint" was checked in the editor. :hmmm:

No....look carefully at my date and time because just before that (a day or two before IIRC) she separates from Prinz Eugen (IIRC) a few hundred miles further west and at this point IS scripted to 'delete on last waypoint.
SHE WILL SHOW UP AGAIN PRECISELY WHEN AND WHERE I POSTED THE SCREENSHOTS EARLIER.

Courtesy of this thread, I'm getting the itch to miraculously be in the area of say Ark Royal or King George V/Rodney at the historically appropriate dates, so let me ask: How well represented is Operation Rhine in the stock campaign?

Alas, I did not get to participate in t6ge Battle of the Denmark Strait, though I did get to take part in what was supposed to be the Bismarck's sinking under the guns of HMS Rodney and HMS King George V while also sailing forth with the Bismarck using the WarShip Mod.
One horrendous thing that kept occurring is that my guns crews kept firing on the other Bismarck! So after each British ship was sunk, I had to hold fire to ensure where my main guns were pointing, to see if they were tracking to the correct ships.
So, with Bismarck's tormentors sunk, to include the carrier group which had done the rudder damage in the first place, Bismarck was saved, though she was still circling round and round when I left her for the night.
Oh, the grid for the final fight is BE53 on the morning of 27 May 1941.

A little late to the party but I fancy taking part in this historic event. However, the screenshots that this comment refers to are no longer available. Could anyone please give the map co-ordinates (date and time) for the sinking of the Hood and for the second battle that resulted in the sinking of Bismark.
I am hoping to be able to watch from the surface using "Improved AA Plus" download to protect the U-Boot from any annoying aircraft.
