View Full Version : The allies got revenge on me

Well after heading into the irish channel (bit foolish maybe) and after sinking 2 destroyers and one large merchant before, I came across a large convoy and attempted to shadow it to get in front. Well maybe due to the calm waters i was spotted by the side escort destroyer and all three came steaming after me. I lined the first one up and at roughly 2500m i fired a fast and shallow air driven eel right at him. He turned late but it was too late and he sank bow first very fast. That must have REALLY annoyed the other two as they picked up speed and i had noticed 3 elco torpedo boats also on a fast intercept course so i had no choice but to crash dive and evade. After some tense evasive moments they managed to depth charge me close enough to cause flooding and i ended up stuck on the sea bed going nowhere. One after the other the two destroyers made charge runs over my position missing me a number of times...then spot on....heavy flooding, 1 crew dead (my medic ironicly), 3 seriously injured and the faint popping sound of the metal bulkheads collapsing.
Oberleutnant Erich Solter and U-28 were lost sometime on 15th July 1940 (last contact with Bdu - shadowing convoy)
The destroyers and tordedo boats worked together I think. Didn't know torp boats had that ability. RIP :salute:

I am sorry to here about the loss of your boat. When you start being the pray instead of the hunter you will find that indeed the ships and aircraft do coordinate their attack on you and work together to flush you out and pound you to death. One comes after you guns blazing depth charges rolling of the deck while the others sit and listen. After his pass is over he sits and listens while another one starts his run. They are very methodical bastards. :nope:

How did you manage to find time to accurately target a destroyer coming after you, at 2.500 Meters, while on the surface?!
He should have been gaining way, and maneuvering to ram you BROADSIDE.
There should have been a lot of 5 inch lead coming your way, followed in short order by 40 MM lead.

Well we were exchanging deck gun fire all the way, so maybe he decided to not maneuver so i couldnt hit his side. Plus I don't play at 100% realism (more like 74%) and have auto TDC on. :DL

Ah. Understood.
That's cool, but I'm sorry you got sunk.
