View Full Version : Contact reports
Sorry if that came up earlier, but search button only found the topic concerning SH5.
I wonder what BdU/ComSubPac is thinking whenever i send a contact report...
Once I encountered the jap. invasion fleet for manila in a S-18, at least six Troop transport, heavily guarded by DDs and CLs in pretty shallow water, made a report and got the mission to sink the transports (I doubt this would be possible even without the escorts).
The other time i encountered two Junks, radioed the report and got the reply that backup would be sent asap and i should disengage...
I wonder if it is of any good to even considering sending these reports. Does anyone use this feature after all?
I use it, when I can. Sometimes I try to follow orders and some time I don't. ;)

Just a comment to help with the search. If you look below the box you type the search, you will see advanced search (just above "Search Downloads). If you use the advanced search it allows you to specify which forum you want to search, so you won't get all those hits from other forums.
I hardly ever call in a contact. I just go sink them...:arrgh!:

Pacific Fleet Command, in the game, doesn't really use any brains with those orders it gives. In TMO 1.9 and I think some of the other mods, it looks at your fuel and how many torpedoes you have remaining. If you are below a certain threshold of these, then it just says return to base or patrol another area at your option.
There is a slight renown bonus to completing those missions though. I think a patrol is 100 points and sinking something is 50 points plus the point value of the sunk ship(s).
Let's say you have most of your torpedoes left. And you call in a status report. It might say go to XY and patrol for 48 hours. If you do, you get an extra 100 points for completing that patrol. But is driving 3.5 days more worth 100 more points? Maybe, if you were planing to go over there anyway. If you call in a convoy, It may say sink em, but it's only worth 50 extra on top of the ship points you'd get anyway for "just doing it on your own".
I may be off a bit with the numbers here, as I only remember seeing these somewhere in a random missions cfg file somewhere.
I do remember at the time I thought it kind of low for such effort. But then, what do we spend our renown on anyway? Officers and Chiefs? And why don't we get a refund for sending one back to barracks?
