I was out patrolling the western approaches when I recieved a convoy report. I did a course change based on the in-game estimated position and set full speed.
Normally you dont expect to find the convoy on the exact spot the in-game system estimates it to be so I hadn't really any serious hope of running into the convoy. Plus there was a very heavy fog which made it even more difficult.
Anyways, I was there up on the bridge taking a brief look around in real-time. Still nothing. I accelerated to x16 time for maybe 5 secs and to my surprise a destroyer escort appears out of the fog to my right side in an almost parallell course. After soiling myself I pressed "crash dive" in a panic about 4-5 times before I realised that I had to get of the bridge first. (bloody hell!) By that time I had recieved several hits from the lighter weaponry on the destroyer from point blank range, we are talking maybe 30 meters. Luckily the sub took only minor damage and I managed to submerge.
Then came the depth charges..My course with the destroyer was almost parallell when we met, but our courses crossed a few hundred meters ahead. That destroyer didnt have to strain itself dropping charges on me. I set full hard-right rudder and continued the diving, just hoping to get the hell out.
Lo and behold, I had steered into the course of the other destroyer escort who also dropped some more depthcharges to my surprise.
(Note that all this happened so fast and I was so focused on getting away I didnt check my minimap for contacts).
I managed to get out of harms way though I had to head back to base for repairs.
In retrospect: That was fun...After I had a few valiums :D
