View Full Version : LOL, a wtf moment.
It was rough seas, and I snuck inside a convoy. I pooped up to periscope depth and fired my first load of torpedoes.. good hits. I then turned in towards the rest of the convoy.. then ran down the ladder to tell the Bosun to activate his Riposte skill so the crew will reload faster.
Being in a hurry... instead of running back, i figured i'd be slick and hit the Shift+U command to teleport me back to the control room.
But...
At the exact instant i tapped that key, i must have breached the surface of the rough seas slightly, because it instead teleported me to the bridge. LOL WTF.
So there i am at periscope depth on the OUTISIDE of the boat trying to get back into the hatch but it wont open. The water keeps sloshing over my head with each minor "breach" of the surface. The escorts are now onto me. Im furiously trying to get into the hatch while ordering crash dive... neither of which worked. Hatch wont open because im not high enough out of the water.... yet crash dive wont work because im on the bridge. LOL.
So i just startred running around the deck while under water, trying to figure out what to do. For a second i thought about surfacing to get me up high enough to get the hatch to work.. but it was too late. I can hear the approaching escorts engines.
There it is.... A bow rapidly approaching me. Noooo! A few seconds later i do a faceplant on the front of his ship. Crew is yelling about all sorts of damage and then i get the death cam.
Game over.
:rotfl2:
Wish i got pictures, but i didn't have time to think about that... i was fighting the hatch.

what??? and no screenies???
the moral of the story, never use the Shift+U key..:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
p.s. I am sure the beta testers never saw that one.

I just watched the Warspite sail 3km after getting hit by 2 torpedoes. "That's not that weird" you say? Well, the thing is it was sailing on the land:

Oh now this has to be the funniest thing I've read yet, would love to have seen it. No screenies eh? A shame, would have been classic stuff.
:har:
But I can of course imagine the scene, and just thinking about it makes me laugh. But lesson well learned about that command, never use it unless you have to, and for it's intended purpose.
But It looks like you truly did get stuck, and that command who's purpose was the get you unstuck actually got you stuck, and "Un- unstuckable" to boot.(Pun intended)
But thats what one gets for using a tool for what it's not intended for, it punished ya, but good.:yep:

:har::har::rotfl2::rotfl2:What a Hoot ! The bow faceplant ( with eyes as big as saucers no doubt ) was hilarious !!!!!! :rotfl2::har::har:
I didn't know whether to cry or laugh. :har:
But, if you want to see what it was like. I can sorta do it on command now. Next time you climb down the hatch and order periscope depth.. get off the ladder and immediately hit Shift+U to teleport. Since the sub is not under yet, it will teleport you back to the bridge, but the sub is still going under.
Now you can walk around the deck at periscope depth. You'll have to surface though to get back in.
Might be a cool trick for a movie maker.
Strange, this happens to me as well if i hit shift u going down the hatch, but once submerged I hit shift u again and brings me back to the command room.

I had a bit of a 'WTF' moment yesterday night. Attacked a convoy, sank one ship and then dived deeper to avoid the 3 destroyers that were hot on my tail. Manage to start to get away at 100m depth but then they find me again and attempt to DC me. Missed each time but was enough to make me want to dive deeper to avoid them. Anyway. I get down to 250m, flank speed and getting away and then decide after 30 mins of speeding off at depth to slow down and come up for some air. So I ask for half speed ahead and hit the 'surface' button.
Suddenly 'We have flooding sir, Pressure hull destroyed' Water all over ship sharply followed by death cam.
Did someone open the hatch?

you may have been too deep. I have gotten hull damage and a warning message that I was too deep at that depth.
250 meters = 812 feet.

You should have known that the teleportation feature haven't been really polished at Word War II.
The first ship with actualy working teleportation was (will be) the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 built in 2245.

Are we allowed to comment on these bugs, or will it be considered negative bashing of SH5?
Meh, I'll just let the bugs in this thread speak for themselves.

Yeah, I suspect that I was too deep. Probably was about to die anyway and was coincidental that I'd pressed surface button. Still, I do find it amusing to think that my XO got fed up of his one eyed life and decided to open the hatch! heheh :arrgh!:

Well this isn't a bug, shift+U is intended as a workarund for something entirely different where the player gets stuck and cannot move.
What happened here is using it for something for which is was never intended, and the player paid the price for being too impatient to get back to the control room and wound up somewhere else. And he did it while in the worst of situations.
What happned next was the game simply doing what it's supposed to do, which is not to allow the hatch to be opened while submerged.
I think he has taken it with stride though, and made a funny story of it, so good on him. Im sure he wont do it again, thats the good thing about learning things the hard way............you are quite a bit more likely to never repeat it.

Oh of course mate, I was refering to another comment that seemed to be reguarding it as a bug.
You actually made my day with the story, and I could just see it happening in my mind, no screenie needed...............:yeah:

Good so it's not just me. I saved just before a destoyer got onto me and when I reloaded I was cruisin with the fishes. Tried to surface quick and open the hatch to get down......too slow....BOOM. Had to load a different save. Least I'm pretty strong to hold myself under water at full speed...lol

Ah...the post traumatic death sequence cigarette. Perhaps the best of the day, full of contemplating whether to go reload the game and dedicate another hour of life to trying again, or turning on the TV to watch a DVR'd episode of Attack of the Show. I can relate to that, Gutted.
