Hi - I'm new to SH4 (after a long carrer a few years back in SH3).

Could someone give me a brief comparison between the 2 supermods (trigermaru and fleetboats)?

Also - do I have to buy and apply the Uboat addon to use them?

Thanks!

It is very hard to tell someone which mod they will like best. Just like asking someone if they will like vanilla or chocolate ice cream best (vanilla of course hahaha). Each has good poiints and bad points and comes down to personal tastes.

Check the huge threads in this section for info about each mod and all the others.

Yes, you really need the U-Boat expansion. Even thought there are previous mods that can be applied to the 1.4 version (the version without the U-boat add on). The developers of the mods aren't "fixing" the mods anymore for 1.4. U-Boats upgrades the core game to version 1.5. And the latest mods work for that version.

I've tried both mods. Right now, I'm on TMO 1.9 with the latest patch. I tried RFB 2.0 but I ran into a bug where there were about 90 destroyers out to get me. Then sailed another 300 miles to run into the same problem. There were too many boats for the lookouts to handle so it caused the game to crash to desktop. I'm currently waiting on the next patch to try it again.

TMO basically is a lot more real feeling than Vanilla. But the aircraft are made of titanium and can not be easily shot down. However, your sub is made of plastic and glass, and can easily be sunk by aircraft. Not very real here.

RFB 2.0 feels very real. However, I didn't get to try it out for very long.

Both mods greatly improve the environment visuals and add more ships to the game. I don't think they do anything to the germain U-Boats though. Only modify the Japanese and American stuff.

I prefer RFB. Why? Because I do. Many others like TMO. You won't go wrong with either one. Just remember to use RSRD with them for the best campaign experience.

And don't forget the third: Game Fixes Only. It is just that - a supermod that only tackles the problems of the stock game.

Also, once you have U-Boat Missions, give Operation Monsun a try. Action in the North Atlantic is superb!:sunny:

A lot has been modded with the U-boats in RFB.

Never tried TMO but with RFB2.0+RSRD SH4 is a game it should be out of the box.
Uboat-missions together with OM+OMEGU is like GWX for SH4:up:
