I saw a copy of SH5 on sale on E-bay. The seller stated that it would not work on the internet. So I sent him a message asking him how it was possible to play this game when it required a continuos online connection. He responded:
"Hi, its an import edition, it does not require internet connection because it wont be able to connect to servers in USA. So, its very simply, just install and play, but you cannot play online multi-player mode. Thanks."

It's either cracked or a scam, either way you should avoid it. :timeout:

That's what I figured, but the price was high enough to speculate...

There are an increasing number of 'offers' on the internet.
Ignore them all like the plague.....God only knows what the discs contain.

And still. If it is a legal copy, but still installed on his system... You can not play at the same time... Another drm thing... You never can buy a 2nd hand copy.

I actually bought my copy from a seller on eBay within two weeks of its release. It was being offered by a reputable seller who had a number of other, "new, sealed" games available. Just search for the title - and, of course, check the seller's reputation. I ended up paying $33 US, including S&H. I had no intention of paying the more typical $47-$51 for it!

Well, sure, there's a big difference between a 'new in box' eBay sale and a 'won't work on the internet, just can't do such and such, but it's all good brother' eBay sale. ;)

The hint in the original thread was "it does not require internet connection" so DRM isn't an issue.
Not to be touched with a bargepole :nope:

It's not my style or my drama.....what would you do about the hundreds or maybe even thousands of torrent links?
Best not to get involved IMO. :nope:

I say report 'em. I don't like pirates, but I won't go out of my way to hassle them. (Laugh at 'em when they get infected with malware from downloading sketchy warez via torrents, yes :D)
But when someone's dirty enough to directly profit off of it... "I'm thinkin' somebody needs to put you down, dog. What do you think?" (I hate quoting Alliance, but it applies in this case...)

Report it to UBI... I'm sure they will be keen to see how they broke their DRM. Cheers

Sounds dodgy! Avoid it as you would avoid a Rat in 1665!
Plus, as someone said earlier. I don't like it but I can live with people pirating stuff for free. But profiting out of it is just down right disgusting! Report 'em!

Actually, Hundert, if you spend 1 minute searching ebay you'll find the seller in question and unless he bought at least ten copies, installed the lot and then decided he didn't like the game, it's pretty suspicious, especially when thanks to the wonderful DRM he only needed one copy and could install it everywhere.
Alternatively, if they are new and legit copies, then I want the details of his distributor, because to be able to sell them for as low as US$15.99 (including free shipping in the USA), he's got great connections.
Also humourous is that he's sold three copies today (in addition to the active four copies he has for auction). I wonder if this thread is pushing up business for the seller? How ironic. ;)
So maybe a bit less :nope: and a bit more :know:?

This is a predictable and desirable effect of a lousy DRM. It will breed confusion in the marketplace and further limit the sales of this abyssmal "game." It's really a trojan horse for all kinds of trouble.
Just wait until used copies begin to hit the market and people are really happy they bought a game that can't be played. Ubi will get the flak for that too.
Can't say they haven't earned it! Blub, blub, blub. They need to leave the simulation market. They have no idea what a customer is.

Confusion? The one thing I would never buy from Ebay is a computer game - talk about asking for trouble

Also - I'd never buy a used game , who knows what else your getting along with the game?

To be honest - if you buy from either of those markets , you get what you deserve IMO. Especially when you look at the price of SHV at the moment

Well I went ahead and bought a 'New, sealed, USA market' game from a U.S. seller on E-bay with 100% feedback for $15.50. Paypal offers a money-back guarantee. So does E-bay. It might be a gamble, but at this price it is worth the risk. I can't justify paying $50 at this time for this game at a retail outlet. Sorry, Ubi.
The real gamble is whether Ubi will patch the game to its potential and finally remove DRM.
I'll let you know if the game is legit when I get it.

Personally, I bought my copy of SH4 from the used market from a local person who bought it and couldn't play it on his machine. I saved a little cash, Ubi wasn't left with a resentful customer and he recouped some of his investment. Everybody, especially Ubi, won.

Got the copy today and it is legit. The game only recognizes 1 1/2 gigs of system memory out of 6 gigs in a windows 7 machine. Any idea on that?:hmmm:

Same with mine, but it runs fine.
Just as a matter of interest I checked everyone advertised on eBay, but none were being advertised as not requiring a permanent internet connection, maybe they have been caught already!:hmmm:
