There have been a lot of (understatement) games that have been turned into movies:
eg. Spiderman, Doom, Tomb Raider, Mario Bros., Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Hitman....etc etc.

But what CURRENT games on the market would you like to see on the big screen?

I would love to see Batman AA, Stalker (any of the series actually) and Mass Effect 2.

Hopefully Uwe Boll will stay away from directing!

World of Warcraft may be making it to the big screen, with none other than Sam Raimi directing it. (announced 22 July '09).
Release date 2011, penning the script is Robert Rodat, so there is 2 big big names already locked in for Blizzard. Great news. I'm a huge fan of Sam Raimi....Spiderman 4's loss is what i say (he was dropped to direct Spidey 4).
Now that is something i'd love to see!

Crimson Skies (Well, not really a current game), only if it's made properly though. The only reason this will work is because the original game was so movie-like to begin with, which is IMO the only way a game can be turned into a good movie. Otherwise, video game movies are usually major failures, so I'd pass...

EDIT: Well, actually, I wouldn't like to see the Crimson Skies game turned into a movie; more like a movie set in the Crimson Skies universe...

None. Why you ask? Because it would be like any other movie Hollywood releases, one explosion and gun fight after another. Special effects are there to add to the plot, not replace entirely.

I'd almost agree with ETR and August, although I suppose I would like to see System Shock 2 made into a movie. Directed by Ridley Scott. Or maybe by John Carpenter.

:hmmm:

As long as it is not a crapified knock-off like Doom was. :shifty:

Sam Raimi directing a WoW movie? Cool!

Metal Gear Solid; just paste all the cutscenees together and you're done.

Though I agree with the "none" sentiment, they'll just ruin it anyway. :shifty:

I would love to see some sort of Half Life trilogy

The first half life movie would follow the first game to a fair degree...

the second half life movie would follow the second game very closely...

the third half life movie would tie it all together and fill in all the gaps of the first two stories.

Ultima Online ! I actually wrote a script for this maybe ten years go. My friends and I were going to film it. We even had all real locations that looked like most of the famous locations in the game scoped out.
This never happened though because everyone who wanted to do it ended up working so much that we just couldn't get people together to film it.

Fallout 3

The Movie 'The book of Eli' starring Denzel Washington reminded me alot of Fallout, - nuclear fall out survivors lone wanderer meeting crazy folks along the way.

Reckon they should do a band of brothers type series of Silent Hunter focusing on a captain and his crew on a U boat at sea. An updated version of Das boot.

None because they're just mess it up.. If the writers and production can keep it authentic to story cannon then ya... I doubt it. :nope: All there doing it making a cheap sell. :O:

Crimson Skies would be great! *they need to remake that game with the Blazing Angels 2 engine!

World in Conflict would be a great one to make into a movie - because it HAS a plot and characters you can connect with.

The BIA series would lend itself well to a movie script for the same reasons. I admit - I felt like my best friend died when Red got told what the deal was.

I would also love to see the Thief series done as a movie trilogy. I think it would go down HUGE.

While "pirate" movies have had their day - I would love to see one based off either Trafalgar - or something founded on EIC Privateer - really delving into the politics of shifting allegience vs just combat.

One last one - and its not a recent game either - but I would be really happy if they would make a movie based off the old Klingon Academy game - or make it into a sequel from that game's end point. I still play it - and can't help but get fired up when I see "Chang" leading. That character - played so well - should have his own movie!

HALO is still on Hiatus, but that would be a movie I would pay to see.
Assassin's Creed would be a good one in movie form.
the STALKER series would be amazing. :o
maybe even Ghost Recon.

I always thought some of the Jedi Knight video games would make a pretty good movie.

I was reading a blog about the history of the Star Wars productions. The reason the first three were so good was that Lucas had little to do with the screenplay. The last three, he was involved in the screenplay.

So, yes, I agree. Keep Lucas away from all production decisions. Pay him a lot of money but for the sake of humanity, don't let him make any decisions!

Agreed.

Personally I think that as a director/producer he should limit himself to the fx stuff and let someone else handle the actors. If he ever had any flair for getting a good performance out of someone IMO he's lost it if the SW prequels are any indication.

Some of the more experienced actors managed to make something out of what they were given, even with the screenplays being what they were - but others were clearly no match for the combination of godawful dialogue and whatever they got from Lucas that passed for direction.

OH GOD please don't let Lucas write the screenplay. :O: Yes if he gets anywhere near the studio someone please give him a 7.62mm hemorrhage.

Lucas ruined Star Wars for me with his prequels. :damn:
