View Full Version : Was I imagining this?

Playing RFB 2.0 with the latest patch and RSRDC - in a S-18 boat in December 1941 near the northern coast of Luzon trying to get home - no torps left and 4 sinkings to my credit - a good trip off the coast of Formosa - I was damaged and was on the surface with heavy flooding and engines inoperable. The proverbial sitting duck.

So a lucky Jap pilot wanders by and straddles me with two bombs. Well now I am sinking at an increasingly faster rate. I was curious when I would hit crush depth.

I finally stopped at around 1,600 feet (guess i was on the bottom) but still alive. Everything is busted and everybody appears to be hurt but we are somehow intact.

I exited at this point since I had no desire to die of oxygen starvation, but the sub was not dead.

I have never had a sub below crush depth - well I have never been crushed, but what happens in the game when your sub is crushed by the pressure?

You get the "Death Camera" also everything and everyone dies or is destroyed.

If I am that deep and still didnt get the death camera, etc. then it is a shame my sub didnt have a better skipper.

I had walked out of the room (wife needed some help) - I was at 1 time compression just sailing home - wasnt out of the room more than a couple of minutes.

Anyway, a plane must have wandered by and did a number on me - will teach me not to pause the game when i step away.

Anyway that started my problems and another plane dropped a depth charge on me before I could get deep and then damage galore. Had to blow ballast tanks to surface - actually had one Jap search plane not see me as he went by. Then the lucky one (just at sunset) spotted me and the rest is history.

The best skipper accepts his luck, good or bad, and carries on from there.

So I save often.
